ARROYO

Is it just me or could any shmuck off the street hit Arroyo's slider? It's 72 mph and it's always over the plate. I swear to you that I'm not that guy that thinks he can his a 90 mph fastball by any means, but Arroyo's pitches don't even look Major League quality. He looks like some washed up college reliever throwing out the first pitch at a minor league promotional night. Why can't the Cubs hit this guy?

I can't watch the rest of the game. Let me know what happens.

It's just you

He’s a major league pitcher.

I guarantee the worst pitcher in MLB could get the best hitter among us bloggers out.

I could hit a knuckleballer

Actually, here’s the big point to be made. I could hit a good amount of breaking pitches, if I knew that they were coming, because with a little practice its pretty easy to hit a breaking pitch that’s coming in in the low-to-mid-70’s. Its the fact that pitchers mix their pitches that makes that mid-70’s breaker sometimes look as intimidating to a big league ballplayer as a big league fastball looks to us bloggers…

But I could probably make solid contact on Jamie Moyer if given a few ABs

I think we need a BCB putt putt batting cage tournament.

why???

must good post be knocked down because of comments who could get the same point or opinion across in a already related thread in this case the game thread. please answer me that. i could start 100 diaries a day about any given subject but theres really not any sense. people that do this are simply wanting to be noticed by others.

Good posts such as...

“Carlos Quinten out for year”- News on a player on a team not even in the same division as the Cubs.

“Should the Cubs sit Zambrano and Harden until the playoffs” – A post asking if the Cubs, who have yet to clinch ANYTHING, should sit their two best pitchers for a month and then just throw them into the fire in the playoffs.

“Thank you Friars, cosmic retribution” – A discussion about the standings and which teams can help the Cubs.

“A little about me” – A post about a poster.

Those are the posts from the last 24hrs that this knocked down… I’m not going to go into the quality of any of these posts, but I’m sure that each had its own section of fans. Guess this is why they say “Different strokes for different folks” or any other of a host of cliches.

So...

What you’re saying is that you hate to have to click next and look at page 2? Its really not that hard.

Honestly, this is a community based site. People post what they find interesting or worth discussion and the site allows it. If it were such an issue I’d imagine that Al (or SB Nation) would put in place some sort of content filter that allows a waiting period before any post hits the site.

To be honest, I really dont care for more than half of the posts, but I just pick and choose around them. There have only been 5 posts in the past 24hrs (in the fanpost side, probably a couple more in the recommended section)… its not that hard to filter through that many stories. Look at ESPN, Digg, Reddit, CNN, etc., as they’ve all got a LOT more stories than this site, and I’m sure that most of us could care less about 90% of them.

Please dont take this as any type of personal attack, I’m just tired of various people trying to be the message board police. We’re all just one voice in the crowd, ya know? It seems like lately there have been too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

This is a useful comment.

However, I have asked in the past for people to take a look at the FanPost list and see if their topic has been covered recently. Obviously, this one doesn’t fall in that category. But as has been correctly pointed out, this might have worked better as a FanShot or even a comment in one of the game threads.

All I ask is that people think about this before they post. I want to encourage participation, but this is an active site and I don’t want it to get like the cubs.com message board where there are a zillion threads on the same issue. There won’t be any sort of content filter or waiting period (other than the waiting period when you first sign up).

I’ll leave this post up in case people want to discuss this further.

Personally...

…I’d rather see this here or in a fanshot than in a game post starting a flame fest.

Um......

Arroyo is a major league pitcher with a winning record in 4 of the last 5 seasons so if you believe any schmuck could hit him go ahead.

I could hit Arroyo

It not that hard, simply choke up on the bat and hit him. He’s even easier to hit once he’s down.

Now, hitting an Arroyo pitch it a differnt matter entirely.

Hey, how's that...

…whole “20F8” slogan thing going?
