Dear Mr Lee
dont hit the ball on the ground.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
You asked him not to hit a ground ball.
He hit a grounder up the middle. I fail to understand your thinking here.
It was NOT a ground ball.
If you dont believe come over and Ill rewind the DVR for you.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
I have my own DVR.
Me and the Gameday scorer both consider it a ground ball. If you disagree, well, that’s your prerogative.
I don't want to argue the issue since I'm using MLB-TV
…but IIRC it was a line drive that hit the ground somewhere in the area around 2nd base and then bounced around towards CF. Maybe I’m wrong. But that brings up a question: what is a line drive and a grounder officially? I mean a line drive can be hit and its first bounce is around 2nd base—is that technically a ground ball or a line drive…? Must it clear the IF before it is classified as a “liner”?
There is no official definition.
This is why you’ll get the same play scored differently by Elias, STATS and BIS.
That said...
…the Project Scoresheet definition of a ground ball is a ball that touches the ground before hitting the outfield grass. The WGN camera angle didn’t show where the ball landed – I think it hit the ground in the dirt before it rolled out, based upon where it was headed, and that seems to be what the GameDay scorer thought as well.
Sori almost had a curtain call last night.
Im glad he didnt.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
it sure does

Paging my friendly neighborhood SABRmetrician...
Is there any place that lists average BA, OPS, SLG, OPS, etc. by position? Where does DLee rank OPS-wise among 1B?

Lee is #13 in qualified MLB 1B in OPS @ .831. Pujols is first at 1.114.
Hardball is good, but I use ESPN’s, too, actually. Depends on the day.

DeRo is #5 among 2B.

No double switch, not like Theriot made a baserunning gaffe or failed to run out a ball…
Yeah...
I didn’t see a pronounced limp, but there have been a few plays in the last few days that he didn’t come close to beating out.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
Worst case scenario
(not likely)
Riot has a serious injury and is out for the season.
Cedeno (or, preferably, ONEDEC) becomes the starting SS.
DeRo becomes the backup SS as well as the starting _.
Does Lou go into the playoffs with only 3 MIs on the roster? If not, who gets the call?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
We don't really have anybody else.
And we can’t add anyone, at least not to the playoff roster – players who weren’t on the 40-man as of Sept. 30 can’t be on the playoff roster. It’d be Cedeno, DeRosa and Fontenot.
The thought of Sori playing 2B is nauseating...

Odd time to get religion.
A Theriot injury would not be spectacular for us – our organizational depth at shortstop sucks. I know he’s not very good, but the Cubs haven’t exactly gone out and tried to reinforce the position.

Latter part of a close game and Lou wants better D? But then, Hoff is still out there, so injury would be my guess.

It looks like Marshall’s been getting better movement (and more favorable calls) on the high arm slot. Anyone watching the game have a read on this?

Beating San Diego State
is not something to be overtly proud of.
"Chicago baseball fans, who are composites of scar tissue and mortifying memories..." - George F. Will
If it wasn't for an outrageously bad call
They would of lost to a school that lost to a I-AA last week.
And there’s no arguing that call was complete bullshit. In order for it to be a touchback and not placed on the 1/2 yard line, it would of had to cross the plain of the endzone. But if it did, touchdown Aztecs.
Bullshit call led to a bullshit win.
