Is that a Felix Pie auction?

Players List

Was there a list of players this year?

by john62 on Jan 10, 2009 2:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Nope.

I imagine that will be on the Cubs website soon.

They used to have the players listed on the top and then the schedule on the bottom. Interesting.

One of these years, I'm gonna make the trek out to Chicago for this..

Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..

It's fun

and busy. Not flying out this year but if anyone out of state does come in for this I can say from past experiences, you’ll feel right at home.

by ak123 on Jan 10, 2009 3:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

eh, well I'm a lil young to make the trek out by myself

but probably sometime in the next couple years. Do players such as Ernie Banks and Billy Williams always come?

Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..

I would posit

that the most interesting but least informative session of the convention will be Meet Cubs Business Management. Unless, that is, the deal is done by the Convention.

by alwaysacub on Jan 10, 2009 4:27 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

It doesn't mean you'll meet new ownership.

Even if the deal is done, the present management team will be in place for a while.

Also

ALso at wgnradio.com they have some details on whos who for their related events.

Steve Cochrane is doing his show Friday live from the convention. As opposed to dead?

Thanks.

That looks pretty accurate. It also includes management (Fleita, Bush, Kenney, Hendry, Piniella, Wilken) and broadcasters (Otto, Santo).

Darwin Barney

Not sure who that is.

Lee not there this year. Aramis never comes. I heard he’s afraid to fly so only flies when absolutely necessary. He’s supposedly also quite shy off the field.

Thanks

Thanks I knew the name vaguely. Figured he was a prospect or maybe some new front office person.

Bundle up for your trip here next weekend. It’s going to be so cold the flashers are only showing pictures of themselves :).

Maybe next year we’ll do lunch during the convention.

No Maddux ( sniff)

I will just stay in New York. Actually I would have been completely shocked if he came, maybe 5 years from now but
he does not like cold weather.
Glad to see Buckner coming, sorry that Lee is not apparently on the list. Sue can have Geo and Shark, I will take Theodore Roosevelt Lilly.

Interesting -- meet Cubs management usually runs one hour, not 90 minutes

Either that was a misprint, or they’re anticipating a lot of angst over Wood and DeRosa.

and it could easily go two hours.

Convention 2010

What’s the best way to get tickets. Obviously, it is sold out already for 2009. For 2010, is there a better way than hoping to get your tickets online before they sell out after 24 minutes? If you book the hotel early, is there a better chance to get tix?

by Ghost of Fred Merkle on Jan 10, 2009 5:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If you book the hotel early, you get passes with your room.

I don’t know how early they take reservations, but you can probably ask after the dates are announced.

Sometimes

Sometimes you can prebook at the current convention for next years. I did I think in 96.

Prebook

Can you book any room there online, or do you have to call them and specify that you are there for the convention? (Thanks in advance.)

by Ghost of Fred Merkle on Jan 10, 2009 7:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Just call

We get our reservations in March for the next year. Just call the hotel right in Chicago. Ask them and they will book it for you. It is about 198 per night and you need to book both nights. In years past the tickets were 10 bucks, but this year they are 15. You can get up to 4 with your room and sometimes 6 if you are nice.

Book

I usually book the week of my birthday in July.

I still feel bad

Usually I get a heads up when it’s almost sold room wise out and post a note but since I’m missing it this year to go to a Bar Mitzvah in PA I didn’t ask my friend who works there.

She did tell me she would let me know if they opened rooms but it didn’t happen except once.

Any idea on when the Yankees/Cubs tickets will go on sale?

…or what you have to do to get them other than get lucky?

I'd keep checking the Yankees website.

They’ll be handling the ticket sales for those games.

Yeah I just checked the web site and I didn't see anything.

I don’t plan on getting lucky enough to get them. I think I used all my luck getting game 1 tickets last year.

No date set but don't get your hopes hope

I doubt many will ever go on sale to the public. Full season ticket holders got them free. Partial Season ticket holders are supposed to
get an option to buy them, a friend of mine who has a partial plan has yet to be offered them. Add in other committmments and I would
guess 5,000 or more per game but at the silly prices , they will be gone in minutes.

I am going but only because I live here and a friend who has full season tickets offered to take me.

I made a deal

I made a deal winter classic tickets for a friend for going to the exhibition games. Got friends in NY husband is a Yankees fan wife a Detroit native Red Wings fan and got them tickets for the winter classic and they are taking me to the exhibition games.

Which means you paid at least $75 each for tickets to an exhibition game.

I want to go to a game

I want to go to those games so I made a trade. What one does for love of our Cubs!

Actually they paid for the winter classic tickets they used. I just got a hold of them.

I'm willing to pay $80

But then again I’m in NY and get to see Cubs come to town only in September this year. While it seems like a lot of money to everyone in Chicago for an exhibition game to me this is one of only a few opportunities I’ll get to see The Cubs play in person.

Another Cubs Convention Reminder

For those who won’t be there, WGN Radio in past years have archived some of their more popular sessions with audio. You would think by 2009 they’d air video with it too but most likely it will be audio again. They’re worth listening to since we rarely get to hear the Cubs speak when they’re not just finishing or about to start a game.

Video

I always thought they could make money for charity by selling videos of the convention.

Usually people also have video cameras and put stuff on youtube the week after as well.
