Sportscorner
Obviously this doesn't exactly pertain to the Cubs, but I was wondering if anyone knew whats going on with the Sportscorner across from Wrigley. I live on Fremont about a block away and still can't figure out what is going on. The place is completely demolished right now and I haven't been able to find any info on whats going to be in place. Anyways, hopefully someone knows whats up on a day with no cubs news out there. Thanks.

I was wondering that myself when I saw it yesterday.

You have no

Yes, yes ... winter is indeed a pond upon which all of us must skate, braving frostbite and runny noses in the hopes that our cars will start and we shan't embarass ourselves slipping on a patch of black ice. Spring is more a quagmire of cold mud and slush, and fall is a pile of fallen leaves that may or may not hide a pile of doggy doo-doo. But summer, ah summer is an oasis of endless green that disappears all too quickly beneath our feet as we rush through its warm, glorious bliss.

looks like...
…they closed Nov 1 and demolished the building on Christmas Eve. Hmm – I didn’t even notice when I was there on the 30th and at the Classic yesterday. Curiously I walked past it both days and didn’t even notice.

TOO BAD...........
THey always had good burgers and service wasn’t bad either…Wasn’t it owned by the Cubby Bear ????
Yes it was
Something smells fishy – why would they close before NYE and the Classic? Doesn’t make much sense. I would think that there would have to be community involvement in permit approvals, etc. I wonder why nobody really seems to know anything.

yep - George Loukas owned them both
as well as the faded yellow brick rooftop building on the corner of Waveland & Kenmore (across from the Budweiser house), and the dark red brick six flat rooftop bldg on Sheffield.
I can offer up two theories:
1) With economy tanking, George needed some cash to finance/cover investments made in other properties so he sold SportsCorner.
2) Economy be damned; he’s building a higher-end bar/restaurant to compete with HarryCaray’s and putting condos on top to boot.

HOTEL PROJECT.....
What ever happened to the hotel project that we heard about in August ?? The area could use some decent lodging . The Days Inn ( Clark and Diversey ) and the Hawthorne Terrace are always booked on Cubs weekends …..It seems that someone would jump at a chance to provide this service …….
The hotel project...
… is on indefinite hold due to the present economic conditions.

Buddy of mine that lives on Sheffield...
said that Sportscorner will be back, new and improved.
That makes sense.
As does the speculation above that some sort of condo/rooftop development goes on top.
