Switch-Hitting Leadoff not named Roberts
Well I haven't seen this mentioned since DeRo was traded so I figured I would put it up here...
Orlando Hudson is currently a free agent and I remember his name coming up at the beginning of the offseason but most people wanted him at SS.
Now that DeRo is gone I believe we could use O-Dog he would add balance to the lineup and move Sori from the leadoff spot. I know we just added Miles but O-Dog would be a much more impressive addition then Miles. Fontenot has shown that he deserves more ABs but I still don't believe he is an everyday player and I really don't like having nobody better than Miles to split time w/ him.
Obviously a LH RF is still priority #1 for Hendry but Hudson makes to much sense to not be mentioned.

formatting is fine, but...
…you get a big FAIL for the use of “O-Dog”. ;-)

Nice idea...
…but it wont happen. I still think that we’re going to see Adam Dunn as a Cub.
That all being said, I like the lineup that the Cubs currently field… I’d do this…
1.) Soriano LF
2.) Theriot SS
3.) Lee 1B
4.) Ramirez 3B
5.) Soto C
6.) Fontenot 2B
7.) Fukudome RF
8.) Johnson/Pie CF
I think Fukudome has a bit of a rebound and Pie/Johnson would be a great defensive center field
One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

I think there is room for improvement.
Trading DeRosa and not adding anyone significant will be a huge step back for this club. DeRosa’s production the past 2 years will be sorely missed, and I am skeptical that Fontenot can pick it up. Fontenot was be a wonderful bat to have off the bench, a lefty that handled the bat well with some pop when used in the right situations. The likely platoon combo of Fontenot/Miles may actually work well, but a middle infielder needs to be signed/traded for before the season begins. A shortstop would move Theriot to second (Lou would still play him) and a second baseman would put Fontenot on the bench, a more suitable position for him. Fukudome will likely bounce back, and I like the platoon in center.

Ive been stumping for Dunn all winter
But it appears my hopes wont be fulfilled if the recent Bradley reports are to be believed. O-dog wouldnt be a bad consolation prize, however.
The thought of them giving up on Pie so soon is very disheartening

Orlando Hudson has zero chance of happening
Cubs appear quite content with the tag team of Aaron Miles and Mike Fontenot. The fact that they shelled out $2.5 million per season for Miles tells me that Hendry expects him to play quite a bit.

"Cubs appear quite content with the tag team of Aaron Miles and Mike Fontenot."
As they should be. Hudson will probably end up making eight figures annually, and while he’s possibly worth that kind of money, the Cubs should be just fine, maybe even better off, with a Fontenot/Miles platoon.

Agreed
I can see Miles playing quite a bit actually.
I do think the DeRosa trade was more about adding the three pitchers as we are going to lose our sandwich picks for Bradley. A bummer that they won’t be used in a mega deal that would help us pick up Roberts (sorry!) and Peavy.
Here’s a thought… the Cubs won the division by seven games. With the drop in talent due to free agency in the NL Central, are they playin it cool and not going to pull the trigger on Dunn or Bradley. The idea being a midseason pickup?

you don't lose sandwich picks for signing Type B FA
Thats part of why its called the sandwich round- only teams who lose Type A and B FA get a pick in that round. You only lose a pick if you sign a type A. The pitchers from CLE were acquired because of how much money they make (very little), not because the Cubs lose any picks for signing Bradley

It's not a bad idea
… but Hudson doesn’t fit into the Cubs’ financial plans, especially after the Miles’ signing.

Also, Orlando Hudson isn't a good OBP guy
He needs to bat lower in a batting order under optimal situation. But this is moot because the Cubs seem happy with Aaron Miles and Mike Fontenot handling the 2nd base chores. Miles is being payed a decent chunk of change and will play quite a lot.

WOULD RATHER HAVE BRIAN ROBERTS
WE NEED A SWITCH HITTING ,HIGH ON BASE PERCENTAGE , GREAT GLOVE GUY , WAS AN ALLSTAR , FOR LEAD OFF MAN. NOT TO MENTION A FAST BASESTEALER . WE NEED BRIAN ROBERTS . THERE IS GOING TO BE A DEAL SHORTLY INVOLVING BRIAN ROBERTS .

Orlando Hudson
Orlando Hudson is remarkably overrated. His defense is slipping and he’s only averaged 135 games a season in his career.
I know it’s apples and oranges in terms of sample sizes but Fontenot last season was a much better offensive player (Fontenot EqA: 304, Hudson EqA: 277).
I like baseball.

Hence why Orlando Hudson is still unemployed
I agree that Hudson is overrated. He lacks the OBP skills to bat # 1 or # 2 in a lineup, thereby reducing the value of his base stealing ability.
