Brother: Mark McGwire Used Steroids
I saw this on ESPN and I thought it was pretty interesting.
Mark McGwire's estranged brother, Jay, is pulling a 'Jose Canseco' and is in the process of getting a book deal to unveil Mark's steroid-using ways.
The truth may finally be coming out with Big Mac, even though we already had a big hunch.

Like Andy Pettitte...
… I think if McGwire had been forthcoming and truthful at the Congressional hearing, people would have forgiven.
Roger Clemens didn’t learn that lesson, either.

It's not the lie
It’s the coverup.

You're probably right....
… but, I don’t think they should be forgiven, at least when it comes to the LAW and the HOF. These chumps were purposely breaking the law, and they financially reaped from it. Between this, and for being such a horrible influence on kids, they don’t deserve HOF status. (and probably should be jailed)

Remember...
It’s not illegal to cheat at baseball. Just immoral.
The illegality was when McGwire and Palmeiro and Clemens and the others perjured themselves before Congress. I’m not convinced it was even Congress’ business to hold a hearing on it, since it has no direct bearing on the state of the country, but they did hold it, and those people perjured themselves, and that is a felony.

Possession of steroids is a felony in most states.
There are also federal regulations against possession of and trafficking in anabolic steroids.
McGwire was breaking a whole host of laws.

Perhaps...
But the actual act of cheating is not illegal. As I said before, they broke the law in perjuring themselves before an overzealous Congress.

McGwire's goose was cooked a few years ago
His brother coming out of the woodwork with this revelations of commenting on the horse that already left the barn.

True
But it is further embarrassment for McGwire, I’m sure he wishes nothing more than to never hear his name in the news every again. He seemed much effected by the reputation he has developed since those hearings, all of which is his fault.
This will no doubt in my mind again bring his name to the forefront of news, at least for a little while.
I'm finally moving on...

His goose was cooked at those Congressional hearings of a few years ago
His weasel brother trying to make an easy buck will doubtful find a market for his book. The McGwire saga has already been played out.

No, not really.....
Just like the Sosa, Bonds, Clemens’ sagas haven’t really been played out, either.

The Sosa saga will play out the first time he shows up on the Hall of Fame ballot
When Sosa chalks in with a pathetic vote total his first year on the ballot then the Sosa saga finally comes out of its closet. Keep in mind Sam-ME “Corky” Steroid forgot the nuances of the English language the day of those Congressional hearings when McGwire cooked his goose.

Crap!
I have no sympathy toward the players that used ‘roids, still, brothers shouldn’t rat brothers out unless it’s something serious like murder or something of the sort. To financially gain from talking about your brothers life is lame… VERY lame.
Somebody should give Mac’s bro the finger of shame.

To McGwire's credit, if there is any credit to be found in his situation...
…when he said he wasn’t here to talk about the past, apparently he meant it. Whatever he took or didn’t take, once his playing career was over, he pretty much vanished. He didn’t try to prolong his career, didn’t attempt any comebacks, didn’t write books, didn’t do the talk-show circuit to explain his side of the story, didn’t have a mouthpiece trying to spin the facts for him…
Really, aside from that SI Swim Suit couples piece and a few celebrity golf events, I can’t recall him being in the limelight at all since his playing days. I’m pretty sure the Cardinals keep asking him to participate in events, but I think he keeps declining – maybe one or two early on but that’s it.
It’s almost like he accepts the consequences of his actions in the court of public opinion, has pleaded “no contest”, and just wants to be left alone. Given that I tend to put more blame on the system than the individual for this whole PED era, I’m inclined to grant him his wish and just leave him alone.

Aye, but....
…The argument could still be made that the reason he doesn’t appear before public is because of him not “wanting to talk about the past” If that day never happened, there is a good chance he’d have been out in public more, especially over the last few years. His biggest grape about baseball is the press hounding him…. he gave them something to hound him about when he said that.

Who can we believe???
I hate the fact that you always have to keep PEDs in mind if a player does extraordinarily well for longer periods of time.
McGwire, Palmeiro, Clemens, Bonds, etc. were on top of the world……… and now we know why.
