Juan Uribe???
My friend called and we were talking. He mentioned that on AM1000 there was talks about the Cubs being interested in Uribe as a back up to SS, 2B and 3B.
If my memory is correct he does have a good arm, and does hit lefties well, but he was not good against righties. I am not sure about this idea, how many infielders do we need (Miles, Font, Theriot, Cedeno, Uribe?).

I am a bit skeptical but..
.. we do need someone to back up at 3B now that we traded DeRosa. He did a very admirable job for the white sox last year and is primarily known for his defense. I wouldn’t be totally opposed to this just because his defense.
Just reminds me how pissed I am that we traded DeRo. The only way I would of been ok with trading DeRo is if
a. We got Peavy
b. We got a top prospect

We already have Uribe.
His name is Ronny Cedeno.

And our version is probably cheaper...
that said, Piniella doesn’t like Cedeno, and Uribe has that veteran-ness that Piniella is more a fan of.

Uribe fits the mold
The Cubs have been getting switch-hitters whose splits sway towards them hitting LHP better than RHP. Uribe fits that mold. Cedeno, despite being right-handed, has backwards splits – hitting RHP well enough and LHP hardly at all. So, Uribe is not Cedeno at all; rather his mirror image.

Right, but basically otherwise the same type of player.

I would not think that Cedeno has
20 HR potential. Uribe has much more pop than Cedeno. Same crappy OBP, but more pop.

Right...
as hitters, the only thing they have in common is that they don’t have high OBP. Cedeno is faster, Uribe has more power.

this would be an interesting move
how does he fit into a plan for Hendry and Lou? how many middle infielders do we ned to carry, or are we going to look to trade Cedeno AND another one? If we carried each of the above mentioned infielders plus Dlee and Rami, that puts us at 7 infielders plus Soto makes it 8. now include the Of and we are at 12, without having a back up catcher. Seems like we are getting a little clogged on the 25 man now

13 not 12
I keep forgetting Gath, and that is without including Micah…

ABSOLUTELY NOT
The are two reasons he played 110 games last year: Joe Crede was injured and your grandmother could have played second base for the Sox last year.
He started out his career in Colorado and his numbers haven’t been anywhere near what they were then.
This is a guy who swings at pitches that are above his head, his defense is decent but not great, and is slow. We have no need for that on our team.
Plus, the big factor, he’s a former whie sox. Ew

All of your post is true...
… except the ex-White Sox part. If a player is talented and can help the Cubs, who cares who he played for before?
We accepted Jim Edmonds. If we can do that, I think we can accept anyone.

YOU ARE WRONG!
Uribe swings at EVERYTHING!
(Please understand that the tone of the subject line SHOUT is meant to be sarcastic in tone. But honestly, Uribe swings at everything.)
As a Sox fan, I find it difficult to be upset at Uribe’s lack of consistent offense. He played a big role in the Sox World Championship. Then last year he adjusted admirably to his role.

Beyond his ability to play or not
what about his attitude, etc. how well would he mesh with Zambrano AND Bradley? Would Cub games be moved to PPV with expectations of fights in the dugout?

Bold suggestion.
No, I mean, you have literally made a bold suggestion. Every word is in boldface.
More seriously, I seem to recall hearing a lot on sports radio this past season that Uribe does play an excellent third base. So, as a bench guy, he could probably back up Aramis quite well. His bat, however, is, well, laughable. My gut reaction is to agree with others that say, as long as Cedeno is on the team, just stick with Ronny.

Juan Uribe is exceptional defensively
The mission of a utility infielder must be defense first. While my initial reaction to Juan Uribe was to gag, the more I ponder this the more it makes sense. Uribe would be an upgrade over Ronny Cedeno on the bench. We have enough offense in the lineup and in the other envisioned bench spots were we can afford to carry an infield defense specialist.

Uribe can hit for some pop and can play good infield defense.
I’d rather have him than Aaron Miles. But we already have Aaron Miles, and I don’t see the need for two of them. So unless Theriot is going in a Jake Peavy trade, this seems pretty pointless.

Already have too many of them.

Crawdad is right about his offense.
He does swing at everything. And he swings hard. Occassionally, the ball runs into the bat.

I watched a fair bit of Uribe last year
and his defense was better than good or average. I’m not sure how the defensive numbers worked out for him last year, but his defense was one of the most important keys to the White Sox winning the division last year – IMHO.
I couldn’t care less that he is a former White Sox player. If the Cubs part ways with Cedeno, I think he’d be a good addition to the ballclub.

The more I think about this, the more I agree.
If Cedeno is dealt, and there’s room on the roster, Uribe would be a great 3B backup. I’m not sure whether he’s still capable of playing a good SS. Would he be better than Miles to backup Theriot?

Most importantly, Uribe is decent defensively at
3b, 1b, and 2b. If he can play a passable SS, he is a great bench player with some thump.
I much prefer Uribe to Cedeno.
