Interesting rumor about Peavy...

so take this for what it's worth, but i thought it was worth sharing...

i work for a radio station here in chicago & as we were talking about the woodfield lockdown...somebody texted in asking why nobody was talking about peavy being in chicago 2day.  i was obviously curious about that so i asked how they knew he was in town for a FACT and this was the response i got:

"I work at the airport for the airlines and I actually spoke to him and got an autograph - he wouldn't say much though - he did say again he would like to play here...I mentioned about having the new owner and he sounded upbeat about the fact that I said that Chicago would love to have him ! He also said he thought he would not be recognized here - NOT ! "

again, take this for what it's worth (could be a lie) but can anybody confirm or deny that peavy was or was not in chicago 2day?????

reminds me of the movie "Wall Street"

but actually there is validity to this kind of stuff. When I was on a search assignment in the late ’80’s before there was security at the terminals we sometimes sent someone to O’Hare to watch who was coming in for interviews for a competing search firm.

This is why so many corporate jets and airports were created as it also provides a travel veil.

I hope he is in town and scouting

real estate.

He’s said he wants out, the Pads are looking to cut payroll and he has approved limited locations.

All that and potential for the probable new owners to weigh in looks good.

Also not in my house...

I don’t live in Chicago. But that eliminates one of the non-Chicago locations in the world that he could have been. Which makes it slightly more likely that he actually was in Chicago. :)

It is not Bullshit

My wife got his autograph this morning as he left chicago for San Diego on an American Airlines flight @ 11:30am.

by cubdreamer on Jan 26, 2009 5:46 PM CST reply actions

Even if he was here

the fact that he was here does not mean anything about a trade. The Cubs can’t talk to him since I believe that would be considered tampering in some regard. If he was here for a physical, the trade would have been announced since the physicals usually happen after the trade is first announced…i.e. trade is a go pending physicals.

My guess is this…He flew in to O’Hare from somewhere else (i.e. Alabama or Texas) to meet his connecting flight to San Diego. The only reason why he did not fly through houston is because he has a contractual obligation with the Internets that requires 1.2 peavy rumors per week until the start of ST.

If Peavy really wanted to be a Cub and wants to play for a winner

He would tell the Kevin Towers that he would be willing to take a small pay cut or defer his salary. ( Like Andruw Jones did with the Dodgers)

This would then make him a lot more appealing to the Cubs,

Also, tell me if any of you guys were him. Would you not give up a few million. ( When you already have lots of them in the bank) to play for the Cubs, let along play meaningful baseball and a pretty much lock to be playing in October?

Come on, these guys have so much money that their grandkids kids don’t have to worry. When does it come down to being on a winning team and being happy?

then the Padres would ask for the whole Cub farm system. Also, if he took a pay cut the Padres probably would keep him for themselves.

Yea right, a couple million

is not what the padres are looking to save, you think 10 million dispersed over the next 4-5 years is going to save their franchise?

They are also looking for the whole Cubs farm system right now with the huge contract.

Even if that was the case, we can take the contract as it and Peavy could renegotiate it once he is here if he really wants to be a cub and win. I know I sure would if I was a multi millionaire and now all I want to do is compete for a World Series.

i dont think so

that is why he swings a lot at shit pitches, he wants to help the opposing pitcher reach his strike out bonus, and is also helping the Cubs not hve to pay bonuses to others in the line up behind him since they wont make the RBI bonus clause.

see, it is his kind hert to others, and his financial wizardry that is helping the Cubs pay less than they might otherwise.

I was in San Francisco for work today...

…and I saw Peavy riding a cable car and eating a hot dog. I yelled,“Is there any truth to the rumor that you are going to be traded to the Cubs before opening day 2009?” And I am pretty sure that his response was to sing “Go Cubs, go!” But he was riding by on a cable car and his mouth was full. But I think it’s confirmation.

Peavy may or may not be in Chicago but

there was a storyline on ESPN this morning running on the bottom of the screen saying that the trade may be back on once the ownership thing was settled and that Olson would be involved. They don’t run things on ESPN unless there is some truth to it. Expect to hear this stuff until a trade happens or opening day.
