New Texas Rangers Unis
For those who enjoy seeing new unis...
The Texas Rangers have unveiled new unis. The changes aren't drastic, aside from a new red alternative jersey. Also, home unis will now say "Texas" instead of "Rangers". Some minor changes to the trim and it seems that vest jerseys are no longer part of their wardrobe.
Overall they are fine... nothing special IMO. I'm think that the home jersey could have been a bit spiced up.

This makes me wonder
Will the Cubs ever change up their unis? Not that I want them to because we have some of the best uni’s in the league.
Bringing back a baby blue one would be awesome though.

I'm sure they will change somewhat over the next decade
Besides the Yankees, all teams have changed up their unis a bunch
Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..

Too many choices.
I like the Red alternate, but not the 6 different sets.

6 sets
I’m fairly sure that there are 4 sets. The blue jersey on the far right is the BP jersey. The other two blues are the same (so far as I can tell), just one wearing road pants and the other wearing home pants. I guess you can count more if you’re mixing and matching… kind of like Univ of Oregon football.
I actually do like the red alternates, too… but I still can’t get over why they went with really no variation… maybe instead of having the home jersey also saying “Texas” have that longhorn style “T” over the left chest.

Yeah, 4 sets...
…but the photo shows 6 different coloring variations. Whatever. It’s the Rangers.

Eh...
They’re nothing more than the generic fare going around. Me personally, I’d prefer it all teams had white (or off-white for teams like the Giants) home unis with the team name (Cubs, Giants, Rangers, etc). Pinstripes optional. Road grays with the city/state name (Chicago, San Fransisco, Texas).
No third jersey. No friday home game alternates. No, first Monday of the month road vest. On occasion, they are allowed a throwback game but only if both teams participate and only if they participate fully (real stirrups).

I'm with you.
I’m a uniform traditonalist.
I really don’t understand the Rangers — they seem to change uniforms every 2-3 years. This doesn’t help get you a dedicated fanbase.

No more McDonald’s vests….they have black alts now.

the Bucos

There’s just something about the home vests w/ black pinstripes…Overall they’re nice, sticking with traditional Pirates unis… only suggestion would be to lose the number from the front of the black alternate. The balance just seems a little off.

Agreed on the black alternate.
I never have liked sleeveless jerseys. But the home white and road gray above are nice.

But
The sleeveless reminds me of Clemente…I always thought the Pirates were the only team that could pull off sleeveless.

The Reds
They have also done a decent job with the sleeveless jerseys.
I’ve become more of a fan of sleeveless jerseys but I think they look silly with pinstripes.
by dmlichte on Jan 28, 2009 9:58 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed on the pinstripes
I always thought the plain cream with gold and black piping on the Pirates was pretty timeless. I agree that the Reds have had their moments with the sleeveless, but not a big fan of the number on front, I think that should be reserved for road unis and only when script or letters cover both sides of the chest — seems to my eye to balance it out.

I like the black alts.....
I thought the sleeveless look was good for the Pirates, harking back to those 60’s uniforms. At least they got rid of most of the red in their uni. The Pirates to me have always been about black and gold.
I can’t remember the name, but the executive said a couple interesting things during the unveiling. One was that they were “switching back to the sleeves to represent the 4 championship teams they had that wore sleeves” (um, yeah, dumb) and that they were replacing the red vests “despite it’s popularity among fans and players” (again, don’t think that’s entirely the truth).

Pirates have a good classic logo and it’s nice to see them returning to more of an old school look.

Nats Unis

The home uniform isn’t shown here and is the same as usual. The road jersey will also have the number on the left side. The two alternate jerseys will have the player’s number on the right side. Personally I always liked the DC logo and thought they’d eventually go towards that and away from the curly “W”
by dmlichte on Jan 28, 2009 9:54 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Walgreens Nationals
I’m sorry, but that “W” is hideous and looks like it was stolen from a Walgreens Pharmacy sign.
by BLou on Jan 28, 2009 10:26 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It only looks ok
On the script — and I can take it on the cap, because well the Senators used that style long before Walgreens made it famous. But it looks like crap on the Solid Red jersey.
by StevenABQ on Jan 28, 2009 3:05 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
They use the script "W" as a nod to the old Senators.
They shouldn’t have bothered — no one wants to remember those guys!
The interlocking DC logo is outstanding. They should just switch to that.

Seriously?
Oustanding?…c’mon Al, lets not overshoot it. I’ll agree its one of the better ones to come along of late, but I can’t give it an “outstanding”. And I’m not a big fan of using the DC intials on anything other than the sleeve patch and the cap (ok ok the alternate jersey). But they should use block or script letters across the chest for home and road non alternates.
Maybe they should use the old “W” from the Walter Johnson days.

I'm with Al
I think the interlocking “DC” is excellent and would make a great hat logo.
by dmlichte on Jan 28, 2009 4:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
They do have an alternate cap with the DC logo.
And I’m sticking with “outstanding”. With a nickname like “Nationals” that’s pretty bland & generic, having a cool logo like that could help them, if they’d use it right.

No. Never change the old "W."
If it was good enough for Ted Williams, it’s good enough for these guys. At least now, the uniform font matches the script “W.”
That stars and stripes “DC” is just plain miserable.
by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Jan 29, 2009 4:06 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Ted Williams?
Oh, please. He didn’t really even like managing.
The “old” W lasted a total of 9 years, from 1963 to 1971 (they didn’t even start the expansion franchise with it). It’s hardly historic, and the team had exactly one winning season with it.
Dump it. The interlocking DC is a great logo and looks even better with the stars and stripes.

As I said
the DC logo isn’t bad although I don’t think its outstanding. But I strongly disagree with you and cubswynn on the stripes — looks like a cheesy fourth of July jersey for AAA. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if MLB didn’t do the 4th of July promotion hats.
Sometimes your better off not trying to stuff too much symbolism into sports logos…its easy to go overboard. Just sayin’

I happen to like the 4th of July caps, too.

I like those grey ones
The cursive W on the hat never matched the linear, military style lettering on their home unis. The intersectin DC logo could be one of the best around, but those blue ones look a little lame/hokie, like they are only meant for the 4th of July or something

The blue jersey
It is meant for the 4th of July and any other games commemorating soldiers and what not. Basically sounds like something that will be used on July 4th, Sept 11th and thats about it.
I agree about the hat never matching the jersey, but now with the new road uni, they will continue to wear the blue hat. Seems like the red hat would go better with that jersey. I am not sure why they’re so wedded to the curly “W” logo of their past… its not like the Washington Senators were anything to emulate.

Red Sox
They also have a new secondary hat

new road jersey

and new alternate jersey

alt jersey
This is actually their road alternate jersey. They have a home alternate jersey, too, which is red and says “Red Sox” across the chest (I believe they had this last year, too)

That sock logo...
… has been their alt logo for a long time; it’s the first time they have ever put it on an actual game cap, though.

Cubs
Dump the red billed hats and make the road unis a little more unique.

I really like this road uniform, use this type of text, maybe with blue piping trim.

The road uniform looks like a White Sox uni from the 70's.
No thanks.
BTW, the red billed road caps are history — they’ll wear the all-blue caps home & road this year.
