This was a very interesting part...

This could be a snappy Spring Training thing to watch…

The local connection extends a little deeper, too. His new teammate Jeff Samardzija (a former All-American receiver) also attended Notre Dame, which seems to be churning out better baseball players than football players these days (see Lidge, Brad), so now Heilman can have someone to vent to on those September Saturdays. Samardzija will also challenge Heilman for a role on the staff.

Nicely written piece.

One line I would dispute, however, is that Wuertz is “pretty much guaranteed” a bullpen spot.

Does anyone happen to know exactly which Chicago suburb Heilman lives in? Just curious.

Consistent. Championship. Tradition.

Well, let's see who else...

… We went out and got a Canadian friend for Dempster last year in Harden.

Fontenot and Theriot are both from Louisiana.

Anyone else?

Wow, I was half-joking, but maybe we're on to something here...

Hmm…
