Close meaning....
… in looks.
But then again, most Cubs in that era (save Ernie Banks and a couple others) looked a lot like that.

You'd be wrong, though.
So far, no correct guesses.

One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

nah
that very first one carried on for days I believe. I love these post so much I hate them. I get myself caught up in trying to figure it out and spend hours. One of the best offseason subjects of BCB ever.
Dear Santa:: All I want for X-mas this year is an official 2009 Jake Peavy Cubs Jersey. Oh and a Beimel one too. I've been a real good guy for the most part!!!
Bob Anderson??
I’m afraid to use 57 players, but he seems to fit the bill.
Of course, they do all tend to look the same after a few pictures.
could it be?
Elvin Tappe?
"It's a funny old world. Man's lucky if he gets out of it alive." W.C. Fields
I'll take this one, Al
DINGDINGDING!!! We have a winner.
This is an AP photo of Chicago Cubs catcher Elvin Tappe, taken at the team’s spring training camp at Rendezvous Park in Mesa, Ariz. on 3/11/1958.
El Tappe is probably better known as one of the “College of Coaches” in 1961-62.
Fun fact: Elvin Tappe was named to the 1960 National League All-Star Game…as a coach!
The Cubs’ Spring Training home field in 1958 was Rendezvous Park. It was run by a local group of businessmen—led by Dwight Patterson, a Mesa rancher and builder—who formed the HoHoKams, a local charitable organization, and were instrumental in luring the Cubs to Mesa’s Rendezvous Park in 1952.
To this day the HoHoKams exist as a charity. The current ST facility is up Center Street at Dwight W.Patterson Field aka HoHoKam Park.
Note the water tower in the picture below:

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
Thanks for answering...
… and for all the details, and for the photo of Rendezvous Park.
You sent a really good one!

Elvin Tappe
He was a backup catcher in the late 50’s . He was also one of the College of Coaches in 1961-62. Brother Ted Tappe played with the Cubs in the early 50s.
