What would happen if they got this done?
Pujols and Manny together, they could make it a race in the NL Central this year

If that happened
Then 2 teams out of the NL central will make it to the post season.
It won't happen.
As noted in the FanPost on this identical topic, Tony LaRussa would never accept Manny on his team.

thank God for TLR, for a once..
Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..
He put up with Canseco...
In Oakland.
Someday we'll go all the way...

Has Tony been quoted as saying he wouldn't consider Manny?

I'll take that as a NO
If you had to choose just one characteristic that would get you through life, choose a sense of humor.
Why?
Tony LaRussa is entering the final year of his contract in St. Louis and is most likely to retire after 2009. Either that or take a job with another organization, but either way he will be done in St. Louis. Why not therefore try to go out with a bang? The Cardinal owners have bizarrely refused to spend money to get better the last few years. And they ousted Walt Jocketty. If I’m LaRussa then I’m pissed off by the situation. I also start to get publicly critical of things to the point where you force the hand of ownership and the front office to improve the ballclub. Say in the form of Manny Ramirez coming on board for a year. LaRussa has accumulated a great deal of goodwill in St. Louis, and frankly I’m surprised he doesn’t use a little of that capital. Especially in this his final season.
LaRussa could stick around long enough...
… to join Jocketty in Cincinnati after they dump Dusty.

or
take a year or so off, then replace Lou here. I would welcome him, he always seems to get the most out of his players, and is one of the best situational managers IMO

Three words: Scary. As. Hell.
But I’ll believe it when I see it. Along with TLR thing, I’m not sure if Manny and a rather provincial town like St. Louis are a good fit.
We are a fever ... we are a fever ... we ain't born typical.
Apparently They're not Interested
According to the rumors page on espn.com, the LA Times asked General Manager John Mozeliak if St. Louis was interested in Manny, and his response was “The answer is no.”
I love that Pujols says he can’t believe no one is clamouring to sign Manny. Most teams realize the Manny in Boston admittedly not playing hard is the real Manny Ramirez, not the guy that pretended to love his teammates and played his ass off in LA.
I personally hope him and Boras are still sitting in the same position come the middle of February, then the Dodgers can low ball the guy.
I have nothing funny or creative to write.

Manny being out of work is bizarre
My goodness, LOOK at what the guy has accomplished over his career. He’s been one of the most devastating run producers the game of baseball has ever seen, and is major reason why the Boston Red Sox won two World Series. I understand the guy comes with baggage and can be a pain in the neck, but c’mon. Manny is still an ungodly force of nature with a bat. All you need to do is rewind to what he did last September and in the first round of the playoffs versus the Cubs. To say he is a big game player is extreme understatement.
Probably the best right handed hitter
of this era…Certainly can make a case for that.

It's obviously his money demands.
If he’d lower them, teams would be lining up to sign him.

STL
Could not afford a Manny contract, and a Pujols extension (or resigning).
