Now THERE is an obscure Cub.

Pitched 26 games over three seasons from 1956-58.

But no, it’s not him.

Don't have a guess

but doesn’t he kind of look like Tom Brady?

It's too early for hints

He's an ACE

Hey, Arnold, do you need another clue?

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

He pitched one year for the Cubs

Thats what I was figuring

I’m still having a hell of a time, haha.

by jbertram on Jan 9, 2009 4:08 PM CST up reply actions

There's a clue in this part of the thread.

I'm going to negatory Ken

…I think this guy’s carrying to much face fat, but, I mean, we’re looking at people from 20 years before I was born.

OK

I know there are better baseball minds here than my own, but with the hat logo alone, this has to be after 1958 right? If I remember correctly the C changed to that style in 57, but they had white piping on the seams.

Someone tell me if I am way off base.

by jbertram on Jan 9, 2009 3:13 PM CST reply actions

you're off by 5-10 years

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

by flachimesa on Jan 9, 2009 3:15 PM CST up reply actions

This assumes I know who this is

which I’m pretty confident I do

by flachimesa on Jan 9, 2009 3:17 PM CST up reply actions

Off on the player??

Which means I’m 5-10 too early, because I think I got the logo stuff right.

by jbertram on Jan 9, 2009 3:19 PM CST up reply actions

it is after '58

Then tell

Us who it is flachimesa

by Clutche on Jan 9, 2009 3:31 PM CST reply actions

This is better than I thought.

No one’s got it yet.

Am I giving too many hints, Al?

Apparently not, since no one has it yet.

Well, if flachimesa's hints are right, my guess certainly isn't

But I just felt like guessing him, anyway.

John Goetz

…and I have to leave work now so I’m done.

by jbertram on Jan 9, 2009 4:16 PM CST reply actions

Too late.

(That’s a hint.)

Correct!!!!

Arnold pitched 13 games for the 1966 Cubs after being acquired by the Braves. Pitched most of his career with the Red Sox. We traded him the following season for Marv Breeding, who hadn’t played in the majors since 1963 and never played for the Cubs.

He wore #47 for the Cubs.

Arnold C Earley

But I wouldn’t call him an ACE

His initials are A.C.E.
