Worf's thoughts on postseason so far -- And of course, a Baby Worf update

I'm able to catch some of the games so far. We've been taking little Theodore Ryan Carlos Sean Richard Randy Aaron Jessica Santo Stone Sorifuldo Worfington to the grandparents' and while they hold him, I get to watch a little game.

A few thoughts:

* The Angels really have the look this year. It is nothing short of amazing how they dispatched of the Red Sox.

* The Yankees are not only the team with the most resources, but the team with the most luck. Unbelievable. I'm fully expecting a seven-game LCS (whenever it gets here)

* I'm generally a believer that the umpires get too much blame, but it's long past time for replay. Fair/foul calls, home run calls, trap plays, hit batsmen and plays at the plate. If a foul ball is found to be fair, it's a ground-rule double.

And if that means we evolve to all plays at all bases, oh well. I'm sick of the "Not balls and strikes" strawman. No one has ever suggested that, but if we do more than the umps want, that's OK too.

If the umps don't like it, they can freaking strike.

* Mrs. Worf the Evil Cardinals fan is holding up fine. She just shrugged her shoulders. She also realizes that Matt Holliday is one of the reasons -- maybe the main one -- that the Cards were even playing instead of the Cubs. My father-in-law, also a Cardinals fan, was bummed the Cards didn't win at least one game, so he could hold that over my head. I told him he'd never see his grandson again if he did.

* Sticking with the my Phillies-Angels prediction

* Baby Theodore Ryan Carlos Sean Richard Randy Aaron Jessica Santo Stone Sorifuldo is doing fine. In less than two hours, he will be one week old. This has been the fastest week of my life. He's nursing like a trooper.

* I go back to work on Wednesday, so I'll have more time during the day to post. That is, if I can pull myself away. I'm going to buy a few lottery tickets and see if I can become independently wealthy and do nothing but stare at my son.

* Poop update -- we are now in the yellow/orange phase!

Just the fact...

That he is a Cards fan should limit his visits!

Angels do look good. I’ve watched Chone Figgins closely and he is definitely not worth what I’m sure someone will pay, my guess 8mil/3-4 yrs.

Red Sox and Cards now gone! Now all I want is for the Yankees to be! I’m already seeing the World Series hype being Joe Torre returns to the Bronx to get revenge or something like that. I won’t watch much if it is in fact the Dodgers/Yankees!

I would sleep with Blou if it meant the Cubs would win a WS. by Doggie Stalker on Aug 22, 2009 4:11 PM EDT

Thanks for the update. It is good to hear that the three of you are well.

You need to post a pic!

Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

I'm really hoping for Dodgers/Yankees

I’m all for crowd reactions and the drama involved and I would love to see the reception Joe Torre gets walking to the mound for the first time at Yankee Stadium.

And I can’t wait to hear the reaction when Manny bats for the first time nad possibly hits a HR.

That might actually be fun to watch though it's

hard to watch a WS and not root for a team.

if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

Definitely limit those Father in Law visits

It is important to keep a newborn away from potential viruses since they can’t take any vaccines yet.

I am going with you on the predictions. I am hoping the Angels can sweep the Yankees even if that is unlikely.

Right

While most people are just keeping an eye out for swine flu, Worf has to worry about bird flu with those in-laws.

As for the playoffs – I think this year should put to bed the questions about the Cubs’ 2008. When you look at the teams that were swept, they were all good teams – they developed their own position players and were still swept, they didn’t take the last few days of the regular season off and were still swept, they had left-handers aplenty and were still swept.

It happens. Very good teams lose three games in a row a lot.

Exactly.

Let’s hope the Cardinals overreact the way the Cubs did last year.

By the way

What the hell is it about women who like to see babies scream? My sister, my wife’s best friend and my sister-in-law ALL were laughing over little Theriot Fontenot Worfington having a fit over something.

Men just want the babies to be quiet and happy. Women think the yowling pictures are hilarious.

Should be soon

Our boy is 7 weeks old and has been there for a few weeks.

I still have yet to figure out the enjoyment women take from a screaming baby, it is not cute or adorable.

Updates are hilarious

Keep ’em coming Worf, this might just make the off-season move a little faster, and I think little baby Worfington might just be the savior of our franchise.

Think about it. Cardinals have an incredible choke job the week he is born….

I’m thinking Baby Worf might just be our BCB Mascot for the 2010 Season

Does that mean

he’s the chosen one? I’d hate to have to wate another 25 years to find out, but its a pleasant thought.

Love to see the updates

I have to live vicariously through those for a couple of reasons. 1) I’m in Afghanistan and missing 6 months of my own kids’ lives (I was amazed how much my 2 year old has grown and thank god for Skype) and 2) my kids are beyond the point where poop is cute. In fact, I think I can use the poop thing to embarrass my daughter when she brings a boy home. On to the baseball, I have temporarily transfered my loyalty to the Angels for the duration of their run. There is something about this year’s team that I like and, as much as this has been played out, I would like to see them celebrate with the memory of Nick Adenhart and bring his family a little more happiness.

Thanks guys

And here I sit wishing I was freezing my butt off at whatever they are calling the place the Rox are playing this week. Not for any particular reason about the teams but I would be there and enjoying live baseball. Oh well, I sit here and enjoy live baseball—such as it is.

Red Sox

Not sure why you’re surprised at how easily they were done away with. They’re not a great team. I saw them at Fenway in August and this team ain’t the one that won two world titles. They have a nice core to be sure (Bay, Youkilis and Pedroia) and some other really good young players, this team seems to be in the midst of a mild transition. David Ortiz is a shell of his former self. Victor Martinez was a great pick-up but spent most of the season with Cleveland. Their starting pitching is not nearly as dominant as it has been in the past.

Anyhow, I expect the Red Sox to be just fine, but this year’s team was nothing special, IMO.

by dmlichte on Oct 12, 2009 4:12 PM CDT reply actions

95 wins and a playoff berth.

Must be nice to follow a team that gets results like that when they’re nothing special. Maybe someday we’ll get there.
