OT-Richmond's new baseball team will be called...
...the Flying Squirrels!!!
That beat out four other options: Rock Hoppers, Hush Puppies, Rhinos, and Flatheads.
It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but I'll give it some time to see if it grows on me. I'm just glad pro ball is back here in Richmond.

Nobody cares about your fantasy baseball team

The could have called themselves the Wild Wolpertingers, which might have been worse...

Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

We are getting a professional team in Woodstock, IL in 2011.
I was so bummed when they chose the name K-Nines. Woodstock is where they filmed the movie Groundhog Day so I was hoping for them to be called the Groundhogs or Woodchuck Chuckers or something groundhog related.

Hm, I'm not a fan of "K-Nines" as a name.
I guess it will reflect well on the pitching staff – the batters not so much. Plus, it will leave them open to all sorts of dog jokes. Still, baseball is baseball. Those games should be fun.

I'm going to go throw up now
At least whenever I go to the Diamond I can say “well bust my acorn nut, the Squirrells just hit a HR”
I'm a lefty, maybe Lou should give me a shot for a position in the bullpen!!
What were they thinking...?
When the Times-Disgrace was taking suggestions for the team’s name, I put my thinking cap on, and I came up with Burgesses. As in, the House of Burgesses, Virginia’s pre-Revolutionary legislature. I thought it sounded historical.
I don’t know what knucklehead came up with the five finalists. Flying Squirrels is probably the best of a bad situation. But that doesn’t make it good; it’s still bad.
Burgesses wouldn't make a very good logo, though.

I think you could convert that into a baseball-playing Burgesses, no?
Perhaps a pitcher in mid-windup with a robe?
Plus, if they were the Burgesses, they could have ‘colonial night,’ with the wigs and whatnot.

Well, I couldn't convert that.
But maybe someone with better Photoshop skills than I do, could do it.

I certainly couldn't either.
I let others handle the graphics. Though here are some examples from the Harrisburg Senators which may have worked well.

Frat boys everyone just found a new favorite team.
Who hasn’t seen a “flying squirrel” before?! That or “hey I’ve got some gum stuck to my leg.” All classics…

Maybe it's because I was never in a fraternity...
…but I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I wasn't either...
…and I would explain further, but I’m not sure it’s appropriate for BCB. It’s not a pretty sight and I hope you never have to see it.
