Oh Joy! Ned Yost Potentially back in the NL Central
He's a candidate for the Astro's position. I can't believe someone wants to give this guy a job. But hey, I said the same for Dusty Baker...

Those Brewer quotes
still make me laugh. What a bunch of tools.

This can only be good news for the Cubs if they hire him.

Totally agree.
The Brewers are hanging on to Ken Macha, too, whom I was quite less than impressed with this season. Yost with the ’Stros could set up a Houston-Milwaukee rivalry that might play out quite nicely for the Cubs.

Ned Yost got raw end of the deal
In 2007 the Brewers did choke with their 8 game lead. But they were still in it the final week of the year. Umpires made really lousy calls in the Braves favor in two straight games against the Brewers (remember everyone at Wrigley did the tomahawk).
Then in 2008, they still won the division. That was insulting regardless how much you dislike the Brewers.

I beg your pardon, they won what?
Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

I don't think they would have won it under Yost
Yost seemed tight under pressure, and the team seemed to take their cues from him.

Remember when Ned Yost would rather play beanball with LaRussa
instead of winning the division? Yeah this is one of baseball’s most brilliant minds.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

remember when ned
bitched and whined that cc sabathia should have gotten that no no vs the pirates and their team proceeded to take a massive dump. just the name ned yost makes me chuckle

Yost
When he first arrived in Milwaukee, he really impressed me. Things did not end well and he had some pretty obvious blemishes. That aside, he likely learned a lot from his tenure in Milwaukee. I don’t think its out of the realm of possibilities that he corrects some of the issues that plagued him and turns out to be a decent manager.

You have to wonder...
… what a guy “learned” when he had the best team in his franchise’s recent history and almost blew their playoff chances by his constant whining, enough that the team had to fire him with 12 games left in the season.
You’d have to learn an awful lot to get past that. I hope he does get the job, because his handling of the Brewers’ bullpen nearly brought that franchise to its knees last year.

perspective
Usually its the time following the experience when you have a chance to take a step back, gain some perspective, and realize what you did right and did wrong. Now if Yost is unable to tell Ed Wade and the others interviewing him what he’d change about his tenure in Milwaukee he likely won’t make it past the initial round of interviews (there is a list of ten candidates that are being interviewed). But the fact of the matter is that if you look at this year’s playoff managers, you’ll see a whole lot of guys who got fired from one (or more) major league managerial jobs. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that Ron Gardenhire and Mike Scioscia are the only ones of the eight who didn’t get fired.

The fact of the matter is...
… if you look at ANY list of major league managers, you’ll see a whole lot of guys who got fired from one (or more) major league managerial jobs.
Among the six playoff managers this year who you DIDN’T mention (Joe Torre, Tony LaRussa, Charlie Manuel, Jim Tracy, Terry Francona and Joe Girardi), you’ve got a list of people who have won a ton of division titles, pennants and World Series.
Ned Yost has none of those; in fact, he was fired as his team was almost blowing a certain playoff spot.

You're missing the point
Torre, LaRussa, Manuel, Tracy, Francona and Girardi were all fired before they won division titles, pennants and World Series. Many of these guys likely generated a whole lot of laughs and criticism when they garnered interviews with their second (and sometimes third) teams. You think that when the Phillies hired Manuel that there weren’t a lot of people who hearkened back to his mediocre tenure with the Indians? I cannot imagine that Boston citizens were all too thrilled with the hire of Terry Francona, who did not set the world on fire during his time with the Phils. Each of these six managers got fired and likely learned a lot from their previous managerial stints. Yost had a bad run with the Brewers just as the aforementioned managers had bad runs that cost them their jobs. Thats all I’m saying.

No one pulled the stunts that Yost did.
I still think Cubs fans will be very happy if he is the next Astros manager.

Astros ought to love Ned Yost.
He’s like Phil Garner 2.0.
If I had to pick which of them was worse, I’d have to pull a Harvey Dent.
(Note: I realize his team won the 2005 NL pennant, but if the ‘03 Cubs had gotten five more outs, it wouldn’t have made Dusty any better of a manager.)

Once Yost is hired....
then we get Phil Garner back in the division and it will be just like old times. Garner is like the Norv Turner of baseball. No matter how many mediocre managerial or head coaching jobs they are hired and fired from, they will always resurface somewhere. I heard Garner mentioned yesterday for the Cleveland job….not the NL Central, but hey, at least in the American League, he would not have to worry about messing with the #9 slot in the batting order during games.
