La Russa still unsure of future
You guys think there is any chance he doesn't return? I have to think that would be a good thing for several reasons. By all indication Pujols is fond of him and is anything but a lock to remain with the Cardinals once in free agency. Duncan seems also to make his decision based on La Russa's. We all know that La Russa does the best with what he's given, I can't imagine the Cards not taking a step back without him.

I'd guess...
…he signs a one year deal with the Cards for 2010, and boogies to another team in 2011.

Sheesh.
I really wish people here would stop the TLR/drinking posts. They’re mean-spirited and not funny.

So you'd like to stoop to his purported level, then?

Perhaps...
… but if I’m the Cards GM, I don’t play that game. You really want a manager on a one year deal with an eye on greener pastures? Either LaRussa is committed or he can move on.
Here's what LaRussa wants.
He is 212 wins short of passing John McGraw for 2nd place on the all-time managerial wins list. That’s probably three more years, which would also get him 34 years as a manager, and also over 5000 games.
Only one manager has all those milestones now — Connie Mack. TLR will manage at least three more years — where those are, remains to be seen.

I completely agree that he will continue managing.
I am just confused about his statements. He says he isn’t sure, though everyone seems to know that he will come back (just like we all knew Favre would), and implies that he will only be with the Cards. Still he stops short of saying either of those things. Just weird.
I just came in here
To comment that if anyone was capable of more drama WRT retirement than Brett Favre, it would have to be Tony LaRussa.

I think LaRussa is more teed off than people think
Hence why I think he is going to bail on the Cardinals.

If he leaves...
He’s going to California — MAYBE Seattle.
Don’t think he goes back to Oakland and Torre is pretty solid in L.A and Scoscia is solid in Anaheim.
That leaves the Giants, Padres and Mariners. I guess you could throw in the DBacks.
Any one of those teams should throw their manager overboard to get LaRussa.

You left out the Reds.
Remember, Tony’s buddy Walt Jocketty is the GM there now.

I thought of them
But I ruled it out for two reasons
1) I think LaRussa wants to get back West. I really think Denver is as far east as he wants to end up.
2) There’s got to be talent there. Cincy is not going to have the resources to compete with Chicago, St. Louis, Houston or even Milwaukee. I just don’t see LaRussa interested in managing teams with an 80-win ceiling.
I think LaRussa can be persuaded to go east, but there has to be more money and talent than Cincy can offer.
The Giants keep sticking out for me.

Bochy was recently renewed for two more years in SF

And they'd throw him over in a second
if they had a shot at LaRussa.

Probably not.
Bochy did a good job there this year, and there’s no way they throw away the $ on a 2-year extension AND pay LaRussa what he’d want.

I think...
…Bochy is one of the most underated managers in baseball.

if and only if
he has enough pull to get us a free agent from stl in a few years
