Don't know much about the guy so I'm kinda in a wait-and-see mode. Given the current makeup of the Indians roster and its immediate future, Acta's probably a better choice than recycling the likes of Valentine or Hargrove.

But I was really hoping that Mattingly would get a chance. Never liked him as a player but certainly respected him. Everything I've heard and read about him as a coach makes me respect him more and I'm starting to like the guy. Be interesting to see where he ends up someday.

Acta

I think Acta will do better than with the Nationals. He’s well respected as a smart, player’s coach. That should work well with their young lineup, and work well with what Mark Shapiro (and perhaps Chris Antonetti in the near future) expects. For all the talk about the BP in Cleveland, I’m not in love with their starting pitching next year unless some guys really step up. I imagine, considering the contract length, that Acta will be given some leeway, as they wait for their young talent to develop. One of the better farm systems in the game right now, with a good mix of talent. The big league club also has some good young pieces in place.

I think Mattingly’s best chance may come when Torre leaves the Dodgers. If they are still going strong, Torre may just push for Mattingly to get the gig.

Bad for them, good for the Cubs. Better Manny is in the AL and not in our division I think.

I think he’ll do well in Cleveland. Hopefully he’ll have better success there than in DC…
