Steve Phillips Fired
ESPN's blurb: "Former Mets GM, baseball analyst Phillips fired"
Love that instead of putting in his first name or indicating he was an ESPN employee, they identify him by his job as the Mets GM 6 years ago.

ESPN isn't a news organization anymore.
It hasn’t been for years. Shit like this and the Ben Roethlisberger story over the summer just prove it. No wonder once I dropped cable I didn’t miss ESPN at all.

Fair point
But don’t you miss the games ESPN telecasts? I don’t watch anything other than the sporting events they broadcast, but I enjoy that much.

That is actually one of the better pic of her too.

She shouldn't have a job either.
… considering she spent quite a bit of time stalking Phillips’ wife and son. That’s pretty bizarre behavior.

You mean SHE's still with ESPN?
Yes. You fire him. You fire her. It takes two to tango, no matter how “inappropriate” the dalliance may be.

Bingo
It’s just not right that she has a job considering what she did.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
I imagine her situation may be a bit more complicated.
Since she is a lower level employee than Phillips, I wonder if she may be able to claim sexual harassment. I’m not saying it’s a valid claim, I’m just saying she may sue ESPN and Phillips. ESPN may be “lawyering” up the situation before they take action.
This is the reason many companies have “no fraternization” policies. It sounds like there’s a serious issue with extra curricular activities going on at the network. Maybe they should revaluate their policies?

The relationship appeared consensual...
… up to the time Phillips broke it off, if we can believe the reports that have been published.
After that she started stalking Phillips’ wife and son… those could have been prosecutable offenses, except that Phillips refused to press charges.
I can’t imagine ESPN would want someone like her working there very much longer.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
The leverage she has is that ESPN wants the bad publicty to go away.
I’m just saying that it’s possible she’s threatening to sue and ESPN is negotiating with her lawyer about how she will be dismissed.
I’m just speculating that if ESPN wants her to go quietly, they will have to pay her a pile of money to go away. If they pay her money, they could require her to sign an agreement that she won’t talk to the press.

What basis does she have for a lawsuit?
Unless she has a contract (unlikely, in her production asst. position), she’s probably an at-will employee and can be fired for any reason.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Doesn't mean there isn't a publicity hungry lawyer willing to take her case
regardless of how flimsy the legal basis is.
My guess is they had her sign some sort of termination agreement with an offer of light “severance” (despite her at-will status) that included an agreement not to pursue further legal action.

What a marvelous disaster.
Apparently Phillips is doing exactly what you’d expect him to do: Voluntarily enter rehab.

Is there rehab for stupidity?

No, but apparently there's one for "personal issues"...
…which is what Phillips cites in this article. I’d still guess it’s alcohol-related.

Maybe he's just hiding from the press and his wife and her lawyers?

No just a woman who can talk sexy to him
" Joe you are the best second baseman ever, Rogers Hornsby can’t hold your jock strap ( though I can). Ryne Sandberg shouldn’t even be allowed to in the Hall of Fame as A VISITOR. Nobody remembers Eddie Collins and nobody remembers Jackie Robinson played 2B for most of his career. You are the greatest Joe. "
That ought to get him.

I think this is a bigger issue for ESPN.
This kind of circus will cost the network when they recruit top talent (both young and the big names.) I know I would be leery of working there and would have issues if I had a husband that was being recruited to work at ESPN.

I doubt it will matter much
The bottomline is dollars. Unless the MLB, NFL, NHL channels outperform ESPN in the ratings, ESPN will continue to dominate the sports market and thus continue to generate revenue and be able to capture/keep the top talent.

It's chock-full of golden nuggets
Joey Jo-Jo Shabadoo Jr. is in it. Homer’s version of Barry Manilow’s “Mandy.” I could recite the whole thing from memory…
I guess it took...
…ESPN’s lawyers a while to feel comfortable the contract language allowed them the right to fire him.
In the end, it’s no loss in regards to baseball broadcasting.
