Never mind figured it out.
The jerk in question was a guy named Ron Clark who appears to have disappeared from baseball after his 2nd very unsuccessul managing Iowa.

Glanville must have been talking about..
… his 1995 season at Iowa, which was pretty bad. He went back to Iowa the next year and hit much better, getting himself called up briefly in June and July and then for good in September.
