Poor Met fans, cheap Yankee fans, devoted Phillies fans and other news
Here is some news and links of the day. I need some baseball stories.
Not sure if this got mentioned but the Cubs have removed Bobby Scales from the 40 man roster and out-righted him to Iowa. This means he is a free agent but the Cubs will probably make him a minor league offer.
Pedro is starting game 2. YIPEE.
Hard times for Mets fans . I feel so bad for them.

Phillie fans are more loyal than Yankee fans. They won't sell and they will do anything to get
the tickets

Well personally I think that is one devoted fan in the last link. I would certainly have to consider that if I did not have season tickets. I mean CUBS WORLD SERIES TICKETS ? Wouldn't you sacrifice most anything to go ?

awww....a rainy WS?
call the whambulance, poor them, we dont wanna get wet :(
WOW…So what? I would sit in torrential rain a hurricane, blizzard…bring it on, if my team was in the Series. I guess the NY fans could pick and choose the year they want to go to the WS games since the Yanks are in it so often. (I’m turning green with envy).
And yes, I definately get what the Philly fan was thinking.
Outrighting Scales...
… does NOT make him a free agent. He’s still on the Iowa roster and in the Cubs organization, unless the Cubs release him. I imagine he will get a spring training invitation as a non-roster player, but he may wind up released or traded at that time.

He is off the 40 man roster
and without a contract. He will be free to sign with another team 15 days after the end of the World Series ( all per AZ Phil)
in my mind this makes the minor league equivalent of a FA though I do think it likely the Cubs will offer him a contract.

I understand the difference.
Like I said, most likely he gets a minor league deal from the Cubs and a ST invite.

Doesn't a player
becomes a free agent the 2nd time they are outrighted?
Has Scales been outrighted before?
Baseball has such complicated rules it’s hard to sort all of them out.

And that's why we need an intellectual powerhouse like Bud Selig at the helm to guide us through these troubled times...

Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Outrighting him to Iowa does not make him a FA
(assuming it is his first outright), but a player who has at least six complete professional seasons of experience — not including indy ball — and who is not on a ML 40 man roster as of a certain date (usually right before the rule 5 draft) has the right to become a minor league FA and sign either a minor-league or major-league contract with any organization, including his previous one.
IOW, the six-year reserve clause applies to everyone, not just major-leaguers. In this case, the outright was just a procedural move to take him off the roster; “burning” the outright doesn’t matter unless they want to outright him again in the middle of a season.
(IIRC, that is how the Cubs got Koyie Hill and Andres Blanco.)

maybe so
but could you call yourself “buxom” like she did. That is pretty hilarious!
Well, I'm a dude
So I don’t think I can pull off “buxom”. Apparently she can, must be a real fancy gal.

Yeah it almost happened to us in 2005
if it weren’t for the Astros beating the Cardinals in the 05 nlcs, it would have been the White Sox and Cardinals in the 05 world series. I hope we never see a White Sox – Cardinals world series.

I'm still holding out hope
for the Cubs and Cards to meet in the NLCS on year.
I think that’d be a lot of fun.

Pedro starting game 2
I wonder about this decision. Is he really the Phillies’ second-best starting pitcher right now? The Yankees have seen him so much over the years, and he is a shadow of his former self. Don’t you worry that he will be over-exposed against them?

I dunno.
I kind of thought that, too. But he had a real good start in the NLCS. Maybe he’s got just enough left. Sometimes managers make these seemingly oddball picks to start in the WS and they work.

Right you are, Al.
Probably the most famous oddball pick being the choice by A’s manager Connie Mack to start the less than amazing Howard Ehmke in game one of the 1929 World Series. He set a new Series record at the time by striking out 13… wait for it… yes, Chicago Cubs to win the first game. Sadly, there was even more brutal stuff to come for the Cubs in that series.
Exactly correct.
Pedro might be exactly the right pick to start tonight, especially with the Yankees now down 1 game to 0.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
We'll see, I guess
I don’t care about the outcome too much, but it does increase the drama to introduce Pedro to the equation. Will the Yankees be his Daddy this time, or will some other oddball relationship develop?

I think they answered
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
They were hardly his "daddy"
Charlie should have pulled him in the 8th but he did not pitch badly. If the umps had not blown a call AGAIN who knows what would have happened.
