Bud Selig Wants A World Series Day Game
Hmmm. An actual good idea from Bud. But how will they get this to happen?

Huh?
Selig: …but our objective is to have as many viewers as possible.
Then what the h*** have you been doing for the past 25 years? MLB has lost an entire generation of potential fans because of their insistence of moving all games to night games and ultimately having them end well after midnight in the eastern time zone.
I guess trying to corral one cow back into the barn is a start, Bud.

I wish I could rec that twice!
That is one I haven’t heard! Which is a good because the cud thing would be hardly complimentary. I am an artist and my main subject matter is cows. People like to make crazy comments when they see my work. I get a lot of moos and “your work is mooving” or “udderly delightful”, etc. etc. I know they mean well so I try not to roll my eyes when they walk away.

I cannot recommend this enough.
The fact that younger fans (at least on the east coast) have no chance to see those moments that define a World Series because they’re happening after they are in bed continues to bother me to no end.

As it should.
My kids have NO interest in baseball. I’m not saying playing the WS earlier in the eastern time zone would have made a difference, but it sure didn’t help.
Well, that and the fact they swore off playoff baseball after I took them to the 2003 NLCS game #6.
Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...

Even as a 27-year old, I don't stay up and watch all the games anymore.
And it’s a shame. I’m right in the demographic wheelhouse to MLB, and I love baseball. But I’m not going to stay up until 12:30 on a worknight to watch the end of the game, more than likely.
Between days off killing the momentum and natural flow of a series and games starting at 8:27 ET, they’ve single-handedly prevented an entire generation of fans from seeing the crowning event of the baseball season.

Football Competition
I don’t know if football gained more younger fans over the last 20-25 years or not because of no World Series day games or not in baseball with which to compete. Of course, there are a lot of college and pro games on during the day on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. I’m glad we are having earlier evening starts now in the World Series. Even with the earlier starts, those in the eastern time zone and sometimes even in the central time zone aren’t able to stay up late enough to see the end of games. Keep in mind, the sizable majority of people in the US live in of one of those two time zones.
That being written, I do feel bad for Dodgers and Angels fans, who weren’t able to get to playoff games because of late afternoon starts to appease those back east. Perhaps, the postseason games are simply too freakin’ long.

Bud may want a WS day game....
however, when FOX ponies up however many billions of dollars for broadcast rights, I’m sure they have in the contract that all WS games are at night. But why? During the week, I understand. People are working, and they want those games in primetime. But why not a weekend day game, like they do in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Day or night, you’re still going to compete against college and pro football games on the weekend in whatever time slot you choose.

You could have one in the late-afternoon timeslot on Sunday...
… if you could work out a deal with the NFL, say, have them have a lot of byes that week, and give that timeslot to baseball. You’d give them a lot of cross-promotion in return.

I was thinking if Friday was an off/travel day, you could have a Saturday afternoon game...
…followed by a Sunday night game. I think FOX would be more agreeable to this seeing as how they don’t broadcast any college football games and they wouldn’t have to give up their Sunday afternoon NFL games.
Of course, Sunday night would be the ultimate in broadcasting irony with a WS game going up against football on NBC – previous home of the baseball’s Game of the Week when I was growing up. Man, I used to live for that Saturday afternoon game – I can still remember the opening segment music…

Ditto.
For some reason I always remember the games involving the Giants, though I’m sure that wasn’t the case.
