Was going to mention this

IMO its no small thing that Ricketts is going on with Boers and Bernstein. For quite some time now Cub brass and players seem to have stayed away from this show. Bernstein particularly was quite critical of Sosa well before it was in style to do so. As a fan of the show I find Bernstein’s interview abilities to be second to none as far as sports radio goes because a.) he goes well beyond the easy, superficial questions you tend to hear on sports radio and b.) he’s extremely analytical and really gets sports.

Ricketts could have gone on with other hosts on WSCR and gotten a much easier interview. Bernstein was well criticized here last year when he pressed Milton Bradley the day he signed with the Cubs. Anyhow, I recommend that people tune in as I guarantee that Ricketts will be asked some good questions by the two. While many other reporters and show hosts will avoid questions that BCB regulars want to hear, Boers and Bernstein won’t.

I can't stand B&B when they banter or when they take callers.

They aren’t witty or funny but they make up for that with smugness and arrogance.

However, that being said, Bernstein is a very good interviewer, maybe the best on local sports radio. This could be a good listen.

I agree...

…at first, B&B tended to annoy me greatly, but over time I have come to believe these are two of the smartest sports journalists in Chicago.

I don’t always agree with them, but for the most part, they don’t blow things out of proportion the way you see a lof of folks do and they are pretty objective in how they view things. Also, there are sports they don’t know much about (hockey) and I like the fact they don’t profess to be experts in everything.

he's going on after the press conference and luncheon.

Got nothing to do with picking those guys other than the other score shows will be over that ime of day.

Don't agree

Ricketts could wait until 6pm when Boers and Bernstein give way to the next show (often Laurence Holmes). Ricketts is no fool and has advisers who tell him what to expect from various media outlets and to me, the fact that he’s willing to go on B&B shows me that he’s willing to be asked the tough questions.

agreed - although I find Bernstein to be to

smug to listen to on a daily basis (love Boers though) I can’t think of anyone else besides those two who would be likely to ask tough questions -

let's see, Kaplan has a long interview with them on Comcast before Boring and Berating

show comes on. They will kiss his ass, plus they won’t even be in the studio with him. Stop over-rating these to low rated clowns.

sorry...

… but you’re just plain wrong. You don’t like them and thats your choice, but if you think that Boers and Bernstein are going to refrain from asking tough questions then you just don’t want to believe otherwise. Bernstein has been talking for weeks, if not months, about the importance of Ricketts’ introductory press conference and those that tune in can be assured that Bernstein will ask good questions that we all want to hear the answers of.

I'd bet one other thing...

…and that is he probably listens to them on occasion and probably has a certain level of respect for them.

It'll be a challenge for Bernstein

He is compulsive about making sure the listeners know he’s the smartest person around. Boer’s will probably will only make a comment about some bodily secretion then go back to sleep.
I do agree that it is a calculated move on Rickett’s part to cut into the Score listening audience.

I updated the Fanpost above with the 11:00 interview.

This is the one Al is going to. Sounds like both stations 670 and 1000 will carry it.

Some people say the glass is half empty, some say half full. I say, are you going to drink that?

Tonight on Comcast,

Ricketts said he doesn’t listen to much sports talk radio LOL
So much for the “respect” for the pontificating, English major. ricketts is far smarter than Bernstein.

do you have a problem?

No one here said that Ricketts listened to Bernstein. No one here said that he respected Bernstein. What was said was that its very likely that Ricketts, either personally or through advisers, knew that Boers and Bernstein were likely to ask some tough questions and going on that show would certainly be an indication that he’s willing to answer those questions. B&B are the longest running sports talkshow in the city and Ricketts likely surrounds himself with enough advisers that he knows the lay of the land. I realize that the complexities of this are a bit too much for you to wrap your head around, but give it a shot for two seconds.
