Pujols is never leaving St. Louis

He is the best player on the planet and defines St. Louis. If it takes $50 million a year to keep him, then they will scrape together the money and keep him. Pujols is smart enough to know that he plays for one of the most storied franchises in professional sports and that his Hall of Fame career is further enhanced by being a part of the Cardinals.

He'd Take A Hometown Discount, But...

if another team such as the Yankees or Red Sox is going to be pay Pujols at least 30% more than what he would make playing for St. Louis, I believe Pujols would bolt. If the Cardinals can offer something remotely close to what other teams offer, then Pujols will stay with St. Louis.

I think this is an extremely overblown story to be honest

Pujols loves St. Louis and St. Louis loves Pujols. In the end they will get a deal done.

What else would he say?

He isn’t a free agent yet. He can’t go around marketing himself too much. I wholeheartedly believe he’s a juicer, but he isn’t a total tool in the media. He seems to have a good understanding of things. But, when it comes time to put dollars into his bank account he’ll do what every FA does. Sign for the most money he can get. There will be teams that will put together packages far greater than what St. Louis can put together. Hometown sentiment is great, but when you are talking about guaranteed years and tens of millions of dollars the best offer wins out. And, then, he’ll tearfully bid St. Louis farewell.
