Oh C'mon!
What is he supposed to say at this point? Could you imagine him saying:
“We couldn’t care less about a farm system and we want to bring in bad guys to underperform without any consequences. Oh, and yes, we are also going to raise ticket and beer prices too.”
Of course not. Listen, so far I do think he’s saying the right things, but that’s the same exact things that I’d say too and so would anyone else. How he implements that is going to be the real challenge.

Even the most incompetent owners are out to win
It’s just that they’re more likely to stumble into it rather than make a habit out of it. We’re still in the honeymoon phase of this changing of the guard, so give it time.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

I agree to a point...
…but I appreciate the fact that he’s very adamantly dismissed any curse talk. Another owner might say, “Oh, it’s all in good fun, part of the history of the team, whatever.” But I think it’s important this regime state from the get-go that this organization is about succeeding at the game of baseball in the 21st century. Period.

2010 will be...
a season of evaluating the entire organazation. Don’t expect any big time free agent signings. If you ask me, I think the free agent crop of this off-season will have to settle for far less than they were hoping for. That’s not such a bad thing. It’s about time that the owners stop the crazy spending frenzy on these players, only to get far less than investment in the end.

I'll say this much....
I really liked everything he had to say. Of course, talk is one thing, doing it is another. And I think he actually said that also at one point. But the talking point of winning the World Series, making the playoffs every year, being devoted to the farm system, and having world-class facilities for the players, coaches, and fans are very encouraging. Ideas like that need to start right at the top in any organization. If you want to know how the Ricketts differ from the Tribune or the Wrigleys, you’re answer is right there.
