Tigers' Cabrera drunk after Friday's loss prior to a domestic dispute...
In a display of incredibly poor judgement during the most important regular season baseball weekend for the Tigers in 20 years, Detroit's' Miguel Cabrera went drinking with a friend from the White Sox Friday night after the Tigers lost, then allegedly got into a physical altercation with his wife.
This apparently was not the first time Cabrera had trouble with alcohol resulting in an altercation and had been warned by team officials to stay away from the bar he frequented Friday night.

If this means we can trade Milton Bradley for Miguel Cabrera,
then let me be the first to raise my glass to the Sox!
j/k of course
Inspector #23 certifies that the above post is sarcasm free, most certainly not what she said, and chock full of intangibles, although regressing to the intangible mean, as you'd expect.

Despite where he got his start
Cabrera is one of my favorite hitters to watch, hopefully he puts this behind him and can have a productive game 163/postseason.

Too Funny!
the Detroit papers on Sunday morning were saying that his dog had bite/strachted him on the face!
Guess that wasn’t true!
If you think you've seen it all...just wait!

Uh no. Talk about tossing man's best friend under the bus. The old "The Dog ate my Homework" excuse didn't hold up.

I said it in the post-game thread
And I will reiterate it here
Miguel Cabrera had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he was involved in a physical altercation with his wife early Saturday morning, according to the Birmingham Police.
Cabrera registered a .26 blood-alcohol level when tested by police, Commander Mark Clemence said. A person is considered drunk at .08.
A person is considered too drunk to drive at .08. There is no legal BAC limit for any other activity, including stumbling into the house at 5AM, waking your daughter, and pissing off your wife. As no DUI charges have been filed in this case, Cabrera’s BAC has no relevance in this case. The reason the cops made him blow was to see if they had to take him to the hospital. Once it was determined that he could sleep it off without getting his stomach pumped, his specific BAC was no longer a factor in anything.
Of course, “he was drunk” wasn’t enough for these hack journalists and their hack editor. They had to give the number (in the subhead, no less) and a quasi-definition before adding in a throwaway line about how the cops don’t consider it relevant (but you should, innocent citizen!).
Utter BS.

I rephrased the header to remove the police reference to his BAL.

Thanks
That was nothing against you, BTW. The article dedicated ~20% of its space to discussing exactly how drunk he was. When someone hammers something that has no relevance that hard, it looks less like journalism and more like sensationalism.

Mickey Mantle pretty much lived with a .26 BAC
Who cares, he didn’t drink and drive. He had a private dispute with his wife, and it seems like it ultimately worked out for the best.
Now if he hit his wife, we have a different issue.

Well...
I have yet to read an article that says he did or did not drink and drive. Everything I have read says that he come home at 0600…not how he got home.
Either way, just poor judgement on his part to put himself in that situation and allow the speculation monster to be awaken.

Norman the Doorman
drove him home…
Sources told The Detroit News that a Townsend Hotel doorman drove Cabrera home in the player’s car. According to the source, the doorman persuaded a seriously intoxicated Cabrera to ride as a passenger and then the doorman took a cab back to the hotel from Cabrera’s home, which is a little more than a mile away.

I have always said....
that fans take losses harder than the players do, and this incident reinforces what I already believed to be true. Leaving the apparent domestic situation out of it (if Cabrera hit his wife, he’s an automatic scumbag), if I were a Tigers fan, I would be furious over the fact that he would be so careless before a game that literally meant the season. I guarantee that a lot of Tigers fans were despondent after that game, and many probably out drowning their sorrows, and to know that your star player is out partying—with the opposing team, no less—that, to me, is just inexcusable. Even as an opposing fan, I would never look at Miguel Cabrera the same again.
I know it’s been discussed here before, but my favorite scene from “Fever Pitch” is where Jimmy Fallon and his buddies see some Red Sox players out enjoying dinner together while they, the fans, are drinking their sorrows away after going down 0-3 in the playoffs against the Yankees. I love the scene because it is so true and so frustrating that fans care more than the players do in many cases.

How do you know he was partying?
Maybe he was “drowning in his sorrows” as well. You don’t think professional athletes take the pressures of losing and possibly blowing a Divisional Championship as hard or harder as the fans? I’m sure plenty of Tigers fans hit the bars that night too.

you don’t go drinking with members of the opposing team that just beat you, and stay out all night when you have a must-win game the next day.

And to further add to the level of weirdness surrounding this story...
Apparently the first 10,000 kids (14 & under) attending last Sunday’s Tigers game received a poster of (you guessed it): Miguel Cabrera.

There's one thing in that article that bothers me.
“I need help please … ,” a sobbing, barely coherent woman whispered to police in a 911 phone call reviewed by The Detroit News.
Since when does a newspaper have the right to “review” a 911 call?

Maybe it was just the way that article was worded — sounded like the Detroit News had some sort of special “in”.

SOMETHING STILL STINKS ........
in this whole story . Just wondering when the warrant request hits the desk of Oakland County Prosecutors . What will the story be a dog scratching Cabrera face ?? Michigan has very pro arrest Domestic Violence laws . But then again maybe it will be swept under the huge carpet for more important folks than us . This is not the first time the Tigers have had to dealt with a situation like this .

Especially the ending:
Cabrera’s statement: “I apologize to the Tigers, my teammates and all of the fans,” Cabrera, 26, said in a statement. “I would appreciate it if you would respect my family’s privacy as I prepare for our next game.”
Fine. Just two last things.
First, it wasn’t us who disrespected your family’s privacy, Miguel — your wife called the cops.
And second, let’s hope you prepare for the next game better than you did Saturday’s.

Pointed out by someone more perceptive than me
Cabrera’s blood-alcohol level was higher than the Tigers’ team batting average.

Pedant alert!
No – his BAC was .26% In BA terms, that’s .0026, not .260

I'm confused.
Doesn’t t a BAL of .26 mean that 26% of your blood fluid is alcohol? At .35 they pump your stomach. At .40 you generally stop breathing.
So if 26% of your blood fluid is liquor and you get hits 26% of the time in baseball, isn’t that a BA of .260?
So aren’t both numbers the same ratio?
