2009 BCB Prediction Contest Results

On April 7, I asked everyone here to make their prediction for how many games the Cubs would win in 2009.

To break any possible tie, the tiebreaker was the number of games Milton Bradley would play this year.

We were all way off... not a single entrant picked 83 wins (my guess, 93, was just as far off as most people's). There was one person who chose 84 -- Arbusto, who is the winner. No tiebreaker was required, but cubfan1982, aznsensation, airmidget1, In Piniella We Trustiella and crw89 all picked Bradley to play in 124 games, which was his final total.

Arbusto, please email me with your mailing address so I can send you your prize, "The Cubs" by Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson, a comprehensive history of the club.

Uh, I think I missed on both those numbers.

Pretty far off on the wins.

Not too bad on games played.

Possible...

… but we didn’t make that one of the rules.

Right

I didn’t really have a point there, just an observation. Most of us were fearing he’d be missing half the season due to injuries. Turns out there are worse fates than that.

BLou wasn't close to guessing?

But he told us for months the team wouldn’t win more than 83 games!

93/130

Samsonite. I was WAY off.

I think we all knew the ‘09 Cubs weren’t as good as the ‘08 Cubs going into the season. I was holding onto hope that we’d close enough at the trade deadline to pull off a major move and that’d be enough to get us into the playoffs.

Oh well, TANY.

My predictions: 92 wins, 130 games for Milton.

Hey, I was only 9 wins off and 6 games off the mark for the Game. Sigh, remember when I used to call him The Game? Those early-season threads are always so wistfully optimistic.

I love it when I talk to my future self.

Lookie what I wrote here:

And a big HELLOOOOOO to myself in the future.

That's great

I’m going to have to write my future-self a small note when this comes around next year. Maybe a “what I hope to be doing by October” type of note. I’m sure I’ll just disappoint past-self, though.

well at least i got one of them right

sigh.. it’s kind of sad to look through the original thread. So much optimism 6 months ago!

i picked 92/120

not bad on the milton guess. but man, finishing one game over the cardinals would have been preeeetty nice.

Oh, well.

I wasn’t the only one who picked the Indians to win.

Well, in all fairness, that's not really upside-down.

He was close on the Twins and Royals and correct on your White Sox. Even you must admit that division could have gone any number of ways this year.
