That day
What started out as such a great day in Chicago sports history Oct. 7, 1984. Walter Payton became the NFL’s all time leading rusher surpassing Jim Brown (later broken by Emmit Smith who was such a class act when he did it. I adore Emmit Smith and so glad it was him not Barry Sanders).
But we all know what happened that day as well. Game 5 in San Diego.
Am I the only one here who occasionally wakes up screaming replaying the ball going through Durham’s legs?
Thank you to all who have offered prayers when I made mention. My nephew Nathan Allan Cubtoseriesby100 was born on Thursday and at his size starts on the O line fot the Bears; 9 lbs 10 ounces and 22 inches!

Remember that day too...
actually a bit more for Sweetness than the Cubs final collapse in SD. This mostly because IMO, Sweetness was the greatest football player ever. His greatness not just being how well he played as a football player but how he conducted himself at all times outside the gridiron.
Ironically, that was the last Bears game blacked out IIRC.
Just win the next game...!

Prominent Former Players at Miss. HBCU's
Payton was the greatest Jackson State Tiger there ever was. Another pretty good football player, Jerry Rice, went to “Valley”, Mississippi Valley State. Steve McNair was the best football player at Alcorn State. That covers the three largest HBCU’s in Mississippi.
