gordo's loose plan
nothing really new or intriguing, but it is an article on the cubs. basically,
1. move bradley quickly and don't worry about an extra million or landing the perfect return.
2. move fukudome to rf and add a cf that can catch the ball (he suggests cameron).
3. sign figgins (he makes the point that I've repeatedly made - the idea that figgins blocks anyone is flawed. I'm not saying you sell the house on Chone, just saying that the argument that Figgins blocks people is flawed).
4. Avoid long term deals. Self-explanatory.
5. listen on Z.

Well...
… guess he read my “ten lessons for Jim Hendry” post from a couple of wekes ago.
I agree with 1, 2, 4 and 5. Point 3, not so much.

3 and 4 kind of contradict eachother...
Figgins is going to fetch at least a 4-year deal. I agree with 1, and I think Dome is fine in CF… sign a power-hitting RF’er.
Someday we'll go all the way...

I was just thinkin' the same thing.
Numbers one and two may end up being a contradiction, too, if Burrell really is the quickest way to move Bradley and Hendry can’t flip him.

"at least"?
I have a hard time seeing teams, in this environment, give him more than a 4 year deal. I think 4 years is probably the max, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has to add up option years to get there.

Probably right...
4 years is the figure being floated out there.

I would love Figgins on this team.

Cameron is such a perfect fit IMO
I don’t see how Hendry doesn’t do that first. I like the Milton point to, just get it over with quickly.
I wouldn’t listen on Z tho. The market has never been lower on him, you won’t get the value you could have last winter or could next next winter if he has a bounce back season (which he will barring injury).
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

I don't think Figgins is a good idea.
If he was 26 years old, fine. He’s not, he is going to be 32 this coming season, and will require at least a 3 year contract. Do you want a(nother) guy on this team who will be 35 years old who can’t steal bases, can’t hit home runs, and is having a hard time hitting for a consistent average at that point in his career? Heck, we know how fast this stuff can drop off in players, who is to say at 32 he doesn’t put up a sub-Juan Pierre-esque year? I just don’t think signing an older player based on his speed and contact is a good idea.
