Jeter wins Gold Glove, (#&^$*@!!
AL Gold Gloves announced. Apparently Jeter had a positive UZR/150 this year, but if I may, that's because his range sucks so much he cleanly plays every ball he gets to.
Also, Mauer is a stud, and that outfield looks like one hellva impressive defensive collection.

Gross. There are like four or five other SS with better UZR.
Whatever.
Glad Joseph Jesus Mauer got his. Teixeira and Jones also totally deserved theirs.

I love that the best defensive outfielder in the game
Doesn’t win a Gold Glove. I’m guessing this is just warming us up for when Mauer doesn’t win AL MVP.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

Ouch. But I fear you're right.
I actually bet my buddy in Minneapolis that Mauer doesn’t win the MVP.

Who do you think will win?
Teixeira? Jeter?

my guess is Tex
Excellent offensive year and arguably made a huge difference to their defense, similar to how Derrek Lee improved ours.

I hope it goes to Mauer.
Amazing offensive season and played plus defense at catcher.
Without him, the Twins probably finish under .500.

Franklin Gutierrez on Seattle. I thought I wrote his name, now I see I didn’t.

My god his UZR/150 was 27.1 in over 150 games. WOW.
Ichiro/Hunter/Jones:
11.3/-2.1/6.7.

What's the higest UZR you guys have seen so far?
This award is a ridiculous waste of time.

Ever?
Corey Patterson was something unreal in 2004 (24.4 I think) and Andruw Jones was in that 26-27 range a few times too. Its too bad UZR doesn’t go far enough back for Jones’ young days.

Tomorow some lucky NL pitcher
gets a Gold Glove since Madog is no longer eligible. Heck who cares if he did not play this season I think he should get
- anyway.

Why don't you petition MLB to just change the award to the Maddux Glove?
and of course, the Maddux Slugger too? And the Greg Maddux award? And the Most Maddux Player award? And the Maddux of the Year award?
Did I forget any?

The Silver Maddux
This would be for most sacrifice bunts. Also the Mad Dog Award voted on by the players for the most skilled & prolific “gas” producer.

Blame the managers and coaches
They’re the ones who vote on the Gold Glove. It beats letting fans do it, but it’s not the first time they’ve made people wonder. After Rafael Palmeiro won a Gold Glove as a DH, I’ve considered the award meaningless. So you won a Gold Glove. Well la de freakin da.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

And people complain about fans voting for All-Star game too
Turning that over to managers, coaches and players wouldn’t make it any better.

Well...
It seems the National League Managers/Coaches one upped their American League Counterparts in the stupid department. Ryan Zimmerman…really…he was the best defensive third basemen in the NL. Without even looking at any defensive metrics, I will say he was not. I remember him making some horrible throws against the Cubs this year.
I personally think the coaches need to be protected from themselves. Some combination of defensive metrics need to be used to widdle the list down to three possible candidate per position so as to combat some of the offensive bias that gets interjected into this award. To restore some balance to the force, I keep waiting for the silver slugger award to be awarded to an offensive inept player….NUTS

Zimmerman wasn't an awful choice
I haven’t looked at the 2009 numbers but he is above average. Again it is a bit of a popularity and/or hitting contest. Pedro Feliz is possibly the right candidate but he wouldn’t get it.
