A deal like that? For a player like that? No. Is that succinct enough? I don't know that addition by subtraction would work. Smarter people than us have tried that.

No shocker here...
…dealing Bradley is going to be expensive, and I do believe Hendry needs to get it done quickly so he knows how he can move forward money wise.

The brusqueness of this quote amused me to no end.
Plus, I believe it’s fairly definitive evidence that we can cease any realistic discussions involving Aaron Rowand.

oops
That might be OK because of his age, the length of contract, his right-handedness and his possible death caused by the outfield bricks.
I was a fan of getting Rowand (if it meant getting rid of MB). But there are probably other options.
Yeah, Sabean's attitude might have saved us all a lot of headaches - and Rowand a concussion or two.
At least we can check Aaron off the list.

Says the man who paid....
Barry Zito 125 million. And Aaron Rowand 70 plus. And actually tried to solve an offense problem by trading for Ryan Garko. Hell, he would have done better acquiring Donnie Darko. Maybe Donnie could have gone back in time, and stopped Sabean from setting his franchise back five years with the Zito deal.
I say good. Count me in the extremely lukewarm camp for for Rowand anyway. I think there are better FA options out there, even factoring in the potential cost of moving Bradley.
Yeah, the more I think about it...
… the less sense Rowand makes.
Bradley for Millwood? Now that’s a deal that could help both teams.

Personally,
I’m a touched shocked that the Rangers would think of swapping pitching for offense. I sense that they still don’t get it. But yeah, I’d be cool with Millwood.
Personally though, I still think working out a deal for Luis Castillo is best for all.

Ugh on Castillo.
Besides, the Mets don’t want Bradley.

What the Mets might choose...
to do with Bradley is besides the point.
They want Castillo gone. The Cubs want Bradley gone. There’s cash to play with. I say figure it out.

Not unlike Hendry...
…the Met’s GM is on the clock, and that makes it unlikely he brings on a guy like Bradley and have it blow up in his face.
GM’s tend to get conservative when they know the rope is tightening.
"I don't like them fellas that drive in two runs but let in three" Casey Stengel
how about this?
Burrell to the Mets
Bradley to the Rays
Castillo to the Cubs
Depending on the dollars involved, I’d make that deal.
It's been floated....
i think the Mets are sour on Burrell.

I recall a few rumors...
That this was floated between the teams, but it went nowhere.

OK, thanks
I know it was a total fantasy baseball trade from my end …
not as long as the Indians still have Hafner
Cleveland has too many young outfielders (Brantley, Crowe, LaPorta) that need playing time along with Sizemore and Choo. No way a GM on the spot and new manager lets someone like Burrell block these guys.
So that leaves DH for Pat the Bat but they still have Hafner there. I suppose a platoon is possible but I don’t think it to be likely. Maybe if Burrell could play a little 1B, but still… He’s just not the type of ballplayer they need right now.
Granted, Woody’s contract is a bit of an albatross, but I’m sure it could be moved under the right circumstances, even if they have to eat a little money to do so. But I’m also pretty sure that they’ll get back pieces that can help the team now or in the future. Not Burrell.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
He has, but they seem intent on giving Andy Marte yet another chance to fulfull his hype...
I don’t see Hafner going back to playing 1b, so unless they find a good deal in the non-tender aisle, I’d say 1B will be a bit of a revolving door in 2010 – LaPorta, Marte, and Chris Gimenez; all RH bats. Acta will probably go with the hot bat as I don’t think any of them are reputed to be defensive whizzes…

I would highly consider
Milwood or Bonderman deals, and say get 1 of them done. This would free us up to go after a CF of our choice instead of what bad contract we will take. Milwood or Bonderman could be a nice surprise and I would rather take the risk with an extra pitcher than Wells or Rowand. It would also mean Marshall should stay in the bullpen or could be traded, now that we have Tom Gorz. Gorz could also be utilized trade bait along with Fox to get a useful 2nd baseman or SS if we fill that is a need.

This is going to shock the people that think...
…we are going to get a lot back for Milton. It just ain’t going to happen.

Well, I'd sincerely hope that no one really thinks that at this point.

No PV? No Roberts?
Now I’m sad.

Oh yes some do
Several questioned me when I said I didn’t believe the stupid story that Ken Rosenthal put out there about the “shocking” interest in Bradley. The only interest for Bradley are those that have deals they really need to jettison. I’m still not convinced that it is a guarantee that Bradley will be moved.
There's a difference between expecting that we'll get something good - which no one should -
at least not without giving up something else good in the deal – and believing that both Ken Rosenthal and Bruce Miles know something about what they publish.
You’re on record and so are they. We’ll see.
Is he traded yet?
Well, I do think it's possible...
…the Cubs could get a player who turns out to be good – relatively speaking. Perhaps a pitcher such as Bonderman or Millwood comes back in a deal and winds up being a surprise success as a decent fourth or fifth starter.
And I really didn’t have a problem believing Rosenthal’s story, though I think the word “shocking” was a little over the top. It seems pretty feasible that GMs across baseball would be highly interested in getting a good baseball player at a bargain price.

IF...
…and this is a ginormous IF – but if MB were to sincerely apologize to the his teammates and the fans, would you consider keeping him? Getting rid of him is going to cost us big time and prevent us from better signings. I hate knowing we’re going to take it in the rear to dump him.
Note: I realize this will never happen and I am not sure I would advocate keeping him if it did. Just curious if it would change your perception.
I think he already had a shot to sincerely apologize and failed to do so.

C'mon, Al! You aren't playing by the rules.
I still wouldn’t, though – because while it could happen, I doubt it would last.

Well, exactly.
I don’t think that even if he apologized, it would be sincere. Remember, we’re talking about a guy who was reported to have admitted he sat out of games with the Rangers when he could have played, to pad his stats for free agency.
