Literally. This is a sad story.

Why?
Bush was a debilitated park, in a low-income, inner-city neighborhood, which is mostly commercial along 16th street anyway. And it was regarded as a dog of a field even before Victory came along.
Trust me, I doubt many Haughville neighbors are losing sleep over this one.
But....
It had a ton of history.
I use to love hearing my dad and his buddies tell stories about how they got to play there during the state tournament each year when they played for Ben Davis.
Yes it did....
But Goldsmith and Peterson had more than a decade to renovate and reuse it, and couldn’t find a worthy taker. So it’s been sitting there in rot for years now. You’re just trading one eye sore for another.

I smell screenplay.
Kind of a “Field of Dreams” kinda thing except replace stalks of corn with the rusted-out shells of old Buicks. Who’s with me?

I'm not sure anyone in Indianapolis is really that broken up about it.
When the Indianapolis Indians left Bush Stadium midway through the 1996 season, no one was too broken up about leaving Bush – it was aging and in poor shape. The Indians didn’t control the field – the City did, so the team was reliant upon them for upkeep of the facility.
As Damen alluded to above, three mayoral administrations have come with 1 idea for using Bush Stadium – it was a USAC Midget Car track in the late 90’s. The near Westside of Indianapolis (between downtown and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway) is continually overlooked by most in City Government, so when they actually determine a plan for that area of town (outside of the Speedway Redevelopment Project, which should help the area immediately around IMS), maybe then something gets done with Bush. Frankly, it should have been torn down 10 years ago, but no one has had the guts to say so.

Wow...
I’d forgotten about the midget cars. Ah, memories. Thanks for that.

I vaguely recall it being pretty popular there, too.
Our offices are in that general area, and it really would be nice if someone would come up with a plan for how to develop some business around there.

Gone, gone, gone
