An animated tribute to the no-hitter that Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis threw on June 12, 1970. Simply brilliant.

Hearing Dock tell it
Makes this thing – cool stuff.

Well done!
That’s a wonderful piece! I always took this story with a big grain of salt because I couldn’t believe someone could make it through a major league game while tripping without freaking out or doing something incredibly bizarre, but after hearing it in Doc’s own words I’m convinced he actually did it.

This is awesome
He must have had an incredibly high tolerance for the stuff, to be able to pitch a no-no. Great story.

Wow, that is awesome. Just awesome.

I don't think so.
I got an email from someone who’s on a crusade to get the MLB Network to broadcast this game. But I do not think any video exists — it may not have even been televised; not all games were in 1970.

All Bill Lee did was pitch games totally stoned.

This is such a good short
I showed this to 2 computer programmers in our office who know NOTHING about baseball and they were cracking up. Great, great stuff.
No-No on LSD
Almost makes you wonder if he was tempted to pitch his next game on acid.
Also, does anyone know when Dock admitted this? After his playing days I’m sure, I just can’t remember.

Has anyone found pictures of this game?….I dont know why but I would love to see something of it as it was taking place. I’ve been looking but I’m not finding anything.

I don't think there are any photos or video around, unfortunately.

This article from the Dallas Observer says that Dock
had a video copy of the acid no-no which he showed to prison inmates in a drug rehab program. So the game must have been televised somewhere. The article is interesting as well. Especially the letter from Jackie Robinson to Ellis.
Hmpf.
I wonder how Dock used a video of the no-hitter to discourage the prisoners from doing drugs. Seems like more of a selling point to me.
“I used the light trails coming off the ball to pinpoint my slider on the outside corner. And since I had no feeling in any of my limbs, I was able to get my fastball up to about 98 miles per hour. But, seriously, guys, don’t try this out in the yard.”

This is one of the best shorts I've ever seen. Outstanding.
I can almost taste that metallic tingle in my mouth right now.

Wonderfully funny!
Somehow, I was sent this the day before it was first posted here…very strange!
