In my opinion..

I think that Granderson is definitely a better trade idea, but how much to get him is the question. That, and the fact that we still would need to go out and get a leadoff hitter since C.G. would better fit into the 5th or 6th slot. Comments?

Briefly

GMJr isn’t any good any more. It’s why the Angels signed Torii Hunter in the second year of Matthews’ contract. GMJr can’t play CF anymore and he doesn’t hit. The Angels’ MLB.com mailbag answerer suggests the Angels wouldn’t do this because of Matthews’ versatility and his ability to play CF. You should believe him about as much as if I said, “The Angels wouldn’t do this because Gary can turn lead into gold and gives all his teammates a +1 to saves, when using his bard song ability.”

Is he traded yet?

I don't see this as being a positive step forward for either team

Sarge Jr. had one great year, got paid, and took the next year off… why would we expect anything different from him in 2010? I like his dad (more as a broadcaster than as a player) but I just don’t see this happening, nor making sense for either team.

LOL

Good points. What would you give up to get Granderson seriously? I think that Fox would most likely go (since he would be outstanding as a DH) but who else would you seriously give to get CG? IMHO we cannot give up Castro

I don't want to give up Castro.

I’d give up Vitters and I’d give up Marmol, but not in the same deal. I’d definitely deal Theriot.

Is he traded yet?

Now, about a leadoff hitter, who would be the best available to get? Because the Castillo trade idea is not a terrible thought, and that would be good enough to hold until Castro come to his own (unless we trade him for Granderson) And thank you!

Read second baseman and go down to third baseman because they comment on Lopez and Figgins.

GMJ?

No thanks. As noted above, this was discussed here at length a while back.

I’m not that hot on Derek Lowe, either. He’s getting old, has a big-dollar contract, and had a mediocre year in 2009.

But Derek Lowe shuts down right-handed batting lineups.

Oh, you mean like he did last year?

RHB hit .303/.358/.463 vs. Lowe.

Interesting that both MB and Matthews ...

went to Texas, had career years and then got big paydays. I’m not suggesting anything sinister, but it’s an odd coincidence.

by elgato on Nov 18, 2009 2:19 PM CST reply actions

and after the big paydays ...

both players were disappointments. And, yes — even dismissing all of MB’s off-field issues, I’d say he was a disappointment as a player in 2009.

This is sort of old ground,

but the short answer is no. Matthews is old, untalented, and with a PED taint. I would sooner release Bradley first.

What do ya'll think about..

The rumors with Chone Figgins and Felipe Lopez coming to us?

by Boost38 on Nov 18, 2009 10:44 PM CST reply actions

Ugh.

Negative on both.

Agreed

Where would Feliz even play?

Figgins isn’t worth the money.
