Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

This article by Sullivan just went up a few hours ago. I'm not thrilled with Castillo, but he fills a hole at 2nd and adds some speed at the top.

Really, just getting rid of Bradley would make this deal successful.

From what I hear...

… and this has been posted in other threads, this one has been widely debunked.

Castillo isn't half the player he used to be

The only thing I can even remember about him this past year is when he dropped that fly ball that cost the Mets that game against the Yankees.

If there is a hint of truth...

… then cut out the Mets and pick up Millwood. He put up solid numbers in a hitters paradise. I don’t envision him returning to his ace calibre days, but putting him in a rotation with Zambrano, Lilly, and Dempster gives the Cubs an outstanding top of the rotation.

+1

This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).

I’d rather try to fill one rotation hole with one of our somewhat unproven rookies than two. You can never have enough good starting pitching.

Are you familiar with the old robot saying, "Does not compute"?

Randy Wells

Count me amongst those who are nervous about Randy Wells. I don’t want to downplay how great his season was, but I’d not be surprised to see him regress, possibly to a significant extent.

by dmlichte on Nov 20, 2009 3:36 PM CST up reply actions

Huh?

An “outstanding” top of the rotation?!?!? Good grief. Zambrano is an enigmatic child who can never be counted upon for consistency, Dempster is a modestly souped up version of Jeff Suppan playing on an egregious contract, Lilly is well into his mid-30’s and coming off surgery, Wells was a former non-prospect who came out of nowhere in 2009 and therefore has suspicion attached until proven otherwise, Millwood is a shadow of his former self and highly inconsistent year over year.

That’s a rotation that smacks of a .500 at best ballclub.

This Dempster hatred

is still something I don’t get. He was a solid arm last year, well worth his AAV. If he maintains his performance from last year, he’ll be worth this AAV next year. Short if it is, Dempster has been fine, and his contract hasn’t been a big issue. Maybe 2-3 years from now, but right now? I don’t see why Dempster is any issue at all. Solid starter who is worth his AAV and is a noted clubhouse leader type.

I wonder how much of this sort of stuff...

is just writers trying to drive traffic to their webpages. Especially since this one was so quickly attacked by everyone and their mother.

Call me cynical I guess, but as much as I enjoy the Hot Stove, it’s pretty aggravating too. It is what it is, I guess.

by CubsWin!Oregon on Nov 20, 2009 3:34 PM CST reply actions

You could be right

about the writers…they’ve got to write something, so I think sometimes they speculate more than report. Plus, we’ve heard the whole “member of the organization says it has legs” comment before.

We would have to eat huge cash for the Milwood/Bradley straight up deal to happen, I think.

The damn rumor won't go away...

because it makes too much sense. It’s good for the Cubs. It’s good for the Mets. It’s even good for the players. And everyone seems to understand this but Minaya.

I understand all of it...

except the value of having Castillo part.

he's still a decent top of the order option

no, not as fast as he used to be, but still takes pitches, still walks, and still a decent base runner. It makes a lot of sense, but I think Minaya is going hard after power first before contemplating anything else.

The list of Mets power first basemen generally reads like a list of Bears QBs

Luis Castillo has been a bad ballplayer for two years

His legs are shot and his overall game has been in a nosedive. He has devolved into nothing special at 2nd base and not very good at the plate.

A big no thanks. We have enough crap on this roster without compounding the issue further.

it's not like the Cubs ...

will get Pujols or A-Rod for Milton. At least Castillo, as opposed to Burrell, would (somewhat) fill a need the Cubs have.

I would rather just get Milwood. But I would be that upset about Castillo.

by elgato on Nov 20, 2009 5:18 PM CST up reply actions

i don't get it

he could actually add something to the club, and considering who the speculated trade involves (MB), I don’t get why people are so down on it.

by toonsterwu on Nov 20, 2009 5:28 PM CST up reply actions

Oh, I GET it

Castillo isn’t that good. But he’s not terrible, and it’s a trade that would address a need (second base) and get rid of Milton. I would also be OK with it NOW because it would allow Hendry to get on with the offseason.

Castillo is terrible

So is his contract
