The New York Times explains the growing importance of new statistics in baseball. However I still think if old methods helped keep Clemens from getting another Cy Young they were not always a bad thing.

I's not sure they didn't go too far with Lincecum
Greinke was with a really bad team. But the Giants won 88 games. And Lincecum’s edge over Wainwright in most categories was small enough, tactics could explain it. A pitcher with a lead may give up more hits “pitching to contact” to log more innings. I wouldn’t consider Lincecum clearly that superior to Wainwright without knowing more about the games each pitched.
More likely is that the two Cardinals pitchers cost each other votes.
