Time to get yelled at...

Halladay, what would it take.  I have read a few "rumors" over the past few days, and it seems that maybe the Cubs would be able to get him if they offered the right package.  So here goes my weak attempt to create a MLB The Show type of trade:

Star-divide

Cubs:

Bradley, Lee, Dempster, Vitters, Jay Jackson, and maybe a AAA OF.

Blue Jays:

Halladay, Encarnacion, Wells

The Cubs could then move Rami over to 1B, Encarnacion can roam around at 3B, and we can have the most expensive OF in history.  The Blue Jays get Bradley (DH more than OF), Lee can play 1B (Overbay can also DH when Bradley isn't), and an innings eater in Dempster.  Vitter's can play 3B for them in a few years, Jackson can possible replace their front of the rotation guy in a few years, and they can have a potential OF this year or next year.  What says the BCB fans?

You spend so much time...

with baseball, yet it’s like you’ve no idea of what you’re actually watching.

Yep.

This is another fantasy league trade.

Plus, the Cubs don’t have the payroll room for Halladay.

Even if they had money this is a TERRIBLE trade

Give up your best hitter, a decent starter and a good prospect to pick up the worst contract in the league and one Ace that you may not even be able to keep long term. Dumping Bradley is not even close to worth that.

Yes, a MLB The Show trade type indeed which includes

Encarnacion as our third baseman of the FUTURE!!!!

Why would you bring this up ...

if you know you’re just going to get yelled at?

by elgato on Nov 23, 2009 10:14 AM CST reply actions

Time to get yelled at?

More like time to get laughed at. Have you even looked at Wells’ contract?
Here’s the year-by-year base salary:

2008:$0.5M, 2009:$1.5M, 2010:$12.5M, 2011:$23M, 2012:$21M, 2013:$21M, 2014:$21M

Not even both of Halladay/Holliday are worth taking that one on.

Like I said.

It’s a fantasy league deal. I wish people would stop posting those, because they have no relationship to reality.

Hmm.

Maybe it’s time to create a thread of ridiculous proposals – kind of like Sullivan’s annual wacky trade edition of “Ask Paul.”

I prefer Aaron Miles for Albert Pujols option

But you have to turn off the “Fair Trades” option in the settings menu thing… works like a charm.

I also recommend the “Random AA Player” for Joe Mauer, and then the recreating “Ted Williams” and “Babe Ruth” option through create a player and picking them up in free agency.

I love posts that start with Time to get yelled at,

then you know its gonna be a all time great with the greats of Eric Hanna among others. And also I was curious so I started up The Show on the ole PS3 and picked The Blue Jays and the Cubs rejected the trade. Im to afraid to try it the other way around the propose the trade to the Blue Jays while playing with the Cubs on my Franchise mode because the Cubs organization just might throw me out as their GM. Good post though wasnt feeling the best today but you made it all better.

Ironic Caption for your pic: "Cubs Fail Whale"

The whale actually looks contented being floated above the waves by the Cubs bullet logo “balloons”.

The real irony (and hopefully foreshadowing) for me is the historical symbolism of Cubs logos rising above and “carrying” the whale.

The original and only baseball team that won back-to-back championships with their home ballpark located at Addison and Clark was the Chicago Whales of the Federal League in 1914 and 1915.

The Cubs floating adrift during their “beached whales days” hopefully ends soon as the RIcketts’ family hoists several of those bullet logos as WS flags at Wrigley!

not only is this a fantasy trade.....

but Its a bad deal for the cubs. there is no reason to take on wells contract…..including wells in the deal would lower the price for halladay, not involve the cubs adding to the deal with lee and dempster.

by cubsmania on Nov 23, 2009 12:54 PM CST reply actions

Thank you all so much for brightening my day.

My day started out horrible, and this is one of the only ways I could think of to get a good laugh. I know it is a terrible trade, and these boards are where I go to get some good laughs. I’m sorry if I wasted some of your time, but I couldn’t help myself. Here’s to a short/overworked week.

Lee is not our best hitter

He may have done the best last season, but Rami is definitely our best hitter.

by Don't Fear the Reaper on Nov 23, 2009 1:51 PM CST reply actions

+1

Although Lee is certainly not a bad option for our 2nd best hitter

if Miles is included in the deal..

Yeah, really.

What’s up with that, Reaper? You move all these players around and don’t even take Miles off our hands? FAIL!

I saw you bring this up on MLBTR this morning.

And I laughed.

This popped up on the Roy Halladay-Cubs thing on MLBTR in the comments section.

Unless you just stole it from there, that was you.

Haha

I came up with it on my own. Appartently there really are stupid people out there that think it is a good idea.

How about a cheaper alternative

such as Edwin Jackson….clearly now where near a Halladay but decent starter who had a good first half last year. He’s on the block too. Maybe a swap with Fontenot and a prospect?
