Albert Pujols Named NL MVP
It was, as it should have been, unanimous. Derrek Lee finished ninth (and got one second-place vote).

Were witnessing....
Quite possibly the best baseball player to EVER play the game. I hate to say that cause he’s a Cardinal but it’s the truth. No brainer here!
I would sleep with Blou if it meant the Cubs would win a WS. by Doggie Stalker on Aug 22, 2009 4:11 PM EDT
I just hope that he never tests positive for PEDS
He’s gonna break the HR record if he plays more seasons than A-Rod

It would be plenty of lulz if he did test positive
Just saying.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
Congrats
He deserves it.
I am glad there is a player putting numbers up like he does without ’roids. I do wish he was in the AL though… and not on the Cards. lol.
BTW: I'm predicting...
..he’ll have a good season, but nothing like he has been having. The Mac Attack is gonna cause some probs… amongst other things.

Continuing the "whacky trades" theme
I bet we could trade Bobby Scales for him

thats way too much

They could move Schumaker back to the OF...

If the Cards agree
To pay Pujols salary.
Harry Caray sold me on the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field. I bought with all I had to give as a 14 year old, my soul.

One of the greatest all-time
Albert Pujols is an incredibly special player. I’ve followed major league baseball since the mid-70’s and I would have to say he is the greatest player I have seen during my era. He’s better than A-Rod, even when you discount the steroid thing
"Cubs will win 79 to 83 games." BLou (7/21/09)
This seems like fun, I'll join in. Best I've seen, in no particular order:
Pujols
A-Rod
Griffey
Bonds
Vlad
Mariano
The Big Unit

Personally, the Big Unit belongs higher up on the list
Dude’s just insanely good when he’s on. You might have factored in the fact that he’s not always on though.
I would put Griffey above A-Rod, but other than that, solid solid list.
Although you might be missing Frank Thomas…?

I would say that maybe A-Rod in his prime
Those couple of years in Texas, was better than Pujols. Obviously, Pujols has had a longer peak so far.

Because of 'roids............
……….it’s tough to compare. Bonds was the best “total package” in the last 30 years with ARod not far behind.

Best alive?
He’s not yet the best CARDINAL alive.
He’ll pass Stan Musial someday, but he hasn’t yet.
Settle down.

Interesting.
Comparison point. Pujols has played nine full seasons; he’s hit .334/.427/.628 with 366 HR. He’s won three MVP awards.
In Musial’s first nine full seasons (1942-51; he missed 1945 due to the war), he hit .347/.431/.584 with 205 HR and three MVP awards.
Pretty close, in my estimation.

More on Musial.
He never won a HR title — best season was 39, though his best years were in a lower-offense era. He did win seven batting titles, led the league in runs five times, in doubles eight times, in OPS seven times, and twice in RBI. Interestingly, Pujols has yet to lead the NL in RBI and his league-leading total of 47 was the first time he had led the NL in HR.
Musial hit .331 lifetime and had 3630 hits, which ranks fourth all-time — and he’d be third if he hadn’t missed the 1945 season, he finished only 141 hits behind Hank Aaron.
I think Musial is one of the most overlooked Hall of Famers. You almost never hear him mentioned along with Aaron and Mays and Mantle, his contemporaries, but he was every bit as good a player as they were.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Actually, I think Ted Williams was more of his contemporary
and once you get past the Williams/DiMaggio MVP brouhaha, I hear Stan mentioned along with Ted just about every time. Two of the best hitters ever.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Pujols is on pace to shatter all that
But he hasn’t yet.
Best CURRENT player? Yes
Best LIVING player? No.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
So who would you say is the best living player?
I’d vote for Willie Mays.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Mays is up there
Aaron is up there. Musial doesn’t get enough love.
Henderson should take the crown when Mays/Aaron/Musial pass away.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
By then, Pujols will probably have passed Henderson.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I dunno
I think Henderson’s career will be one of those, “Wait, he did WHAT?” careers 50-75 years from now.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
If one doesn't get bent out of shape about the steroids era...
I think it’s a toss-up between Henderson and Bonds once Mays/Aaron/Musial pass away.
And if Pujols continues as he has, it’ll be a 3-way race.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
A-Rod will be in there as well
I guess I’ll go with conventional wisdom and pick Mays right now.
Of course, this “Greatest Living Ballplayer” stuff was created for DiMaggio. I can’t be sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was created for some coffeemaker he was pitching.
