Give him the benefit of the doubt

I was pulled over for the drunk test one night about 10 pm, after a very long day at work, and did not even know that I was driving so sloppy – just too beat to realize it. They gave me the drunk test in McDonald’s parking lot! That was 20 years ago, but the lesson was learned.

Anyway, it is entirely possible to be impaired just by being dog tired or upset. Tiger is one of the few athletes who has actually been a decent role model, so give him the benefit of the doubt until the details are known.

You're lucky that didn't happen 20 years later

You probably would have been arrested and taken to the local police station and charged with reckless driving for driving “tired.” They also would have probably taken blood and tested for everything, just to waste your time. Gotta hit those MADD quotas to get your free vacations, afterall.

Reports are...

Suffered facial cuts , was treated and released. Also the police saw no evidence of alcohol or drugs playing a role and Woods was not therefore tested for anything.

"Serious condition" is incorrect

He has “serious” injuries, mostly facial lacerations like BLou said (god I can’t believe I’m reaffirming a BLou post, but it is the season of giving). He was treated and released.

I just can’t believe at 2:25am that you wreck like that w/out alcohol being involved… I wonder if maybe him and wonder wife got into a bit of a tiff and he had some rage to work out… Tiger does have a bit of a temper. I could totally see him blowing up and flooring his Escalade out of the driveway and 400hp+ causing a bit of a problem.

Hopefully he’s ok, although a Frankenstein-looking TWoods would be pretty bad ass for the 2010 PGA Tour season :-)

No...

But it did occur to me that the whole thing was a big lie, and his wife may have beat the crap out of him after learning of an alleged mistress and then beat the crap out of his car and took off and ran it into a tree.

So although Tiger wasn’t drunk, I’m sure his wife was drunk… on rage.

TMZ is sadly right more often than not

I hate that site/show but they’re unfortunately one of the more accurate news sources out there right now. Don’t forget, they were pretty much the only source for Michael Jackson’s death for the first few hours . . .

You are quite right.

I think this is because they are unencumbered with any politically correct agenda, and are therefore free to report the facts, rather than the watered-down version or preferable alternative the MSM always run with. Ditto for the National Enquirer (see: Rielle Hunter).

I’d guess he had a tiff with the wife. He got that thing going pretty fast in a short amount of space. He’d barely cleared his driveway.

I’m glad that he was not critically injured. Even if the facial cuts are bad, it is good to hear that it was nothing life threatening.

He's a lucky guy...
The wife of the world’s No.1 golfer Tiger Woods used one of his tools — a golf club — to smash open a window of his crashed SUV and then pulled him out of the damaged vehicle after an early-morning accident Friday outside their Isleworth mansion.

We now know Elin is not only stunningly gorgeous, but good in a crisis. Who wouldn’t want to be rescued by this?

Yeah, that's what I would have done.

But according to this, he doesn’t have to talk to them at all:

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said troopers were en route to Woods’ $2.4 million mansion in the gated community of Isleworth when agent Mark Steinberg called and was put through to the troopers, telling them Woods and his wife were unavailable.

Woods is not required by law to speak to the highway patrol because the incident is being investigated as a traffic accident, Montes said.

Still, I agree with you — a quick public statement would lay this to rest.

very bad advice from his agent . The media is not going to let this this incident go . Tiger is seen as a very high sports figure . Sounds like this was a domestic that got out of hand . Fairly clear from Tiger's statement on Sunday that he has been unfaithful in his marriage

To wit, reference the phrase “this is all my fault.” I suspect that husband and wife were having a heated argument and that emotions were running high followed by Tiger hopping in the car and storming down the road. Hence the accident.

The image of Elin chasing him down the driveway with a golf club

by madcow256 on Nov 30, 2009 1:05 PM CST up reply actions

Here is what Tiger's statement should be:

Nothing. THAT is my answer.

IF you don’t like it, here is a golf club. Turn it sideways, and jam it in your ass.

I did not hit anyone with my vehicle. Police have told you there were no signs of alcohol. Elin is not alleging I abused her nor have police suggested I did.

I will happily and humbly reimburse the city for the damage to their fire hydrant and pay for any damage to my neighbor’s yard.

Other than that, you’ve got nothing. Actually, you ARE nothing, which is why you have to live your life vicariously through me.

Obviously, I added the Worf touch

But what galls me is all this nonsense about how a regular guy wouldn’t be able to avoid talking to police this long.

The truth is, police wouldn’t give a damn about a regular guy. As soon as the blood-alcohol content level came back zero point zero, they would shrug their shoulders, present the guy with a bill for the fire hydrant and move on.

Tiger is human. God save us all. Don’t buy a Buick if you don’t like it.

I agree 100%. I saw this yesterday, and I don’t understand the feeling that “we” are entitled to an explanation. This incident just barely spilled beyond the bounds of their property, but everyone needs to know what happened. Not really.

The accident happened on private property, hence the police can't do a damned thing

Tiger lives in a private gated community with it’s own security patrol. Hence the police don’t have a pot to piss in.

It is fairly evident that the Mr. and Mrs. Woods had a heated argument, thereby prompting Mrs. Woods to attempt shoving a sand wedge up Mr. Woods’ keester, followed by him running for his life out the door while fumbling for his keys and hoping in the Escalade. Rearview mirror image of a crazed Mrs. Woods running a 4.3 with golf club in hand caused Mr. Woods to run into a fire hydrant, followed by a tree. Mrs. Woods then used the wedge to smash through the side door window and drag a barely conscious Mr. Wood out to the ground by his neck. That’s when sanity prevailed and somebody called for emergency assistant.

I don’t think I’m terribly wrong in any of this. Mr. Woods got caught diddling another woman and Mrs. Woods took objection.

The longer it drags on, the worse it gets

I agree that Tiger has no legal obligation to talk to anyone. But, he isn’t just anyone. He has an entire brand to protect. All he had to do was have one short interview with a friendly media person. Keep it short, put out a good story, then walk away. He is allowing the loony media to control this story line. I get the impression that Tiger himself is making the decisions, and ignoring the advise of his consultants. He should have taken a page from David Letterman, just rip the scab off, and be done with it.

Protect the brand

By preserving a sense of mystery instead of becoming a reality-show attention whore.

Letterman has to go out and face the audience almost daily. Tiger can afford to outlast the short-attention-span crowd. The cream-puff interview that you describe would not stop the requests for more interviews.

I would have a different opinion on this if it looked like someone was getting away with murder because they were big and powerful. If there was a sign that Tiger was beating his wife, a public outcry would be appropriate, because he is the powerful person in this relationship. Since there is some sign that she may be beating him, there is no doubt in my mind that he is capable of getting out if he wants.

My 3 cents

I belive he is covering something up most likely protecting the wife.

As far as the Rachel Uchitel angle. I bet she was telling her friends and family she and Tiger were having an affair so they would pass the lie detector tests when they claimed she did.

She already has been proven to be a liar by claiming an affair with David Boreanaz using a friendly picture taken at an event. If a friendly picture taking at an event meant you were having an affair, it would mean I have had affairs with most of the Cubs and Bears players since the mid 80s!
