Who could the Cubs get back from the Rangers?
Michael Young?

without a ready third baseman
and coming off the solid year that he had, I think it’s less likely that they move Michael Young this offseason. Now, if they line something up, maybe. But they’d be trying to add to the offense from last year, and offense where Young was a bright spot.
More than likely, I’d look for either
a) We pay a huge chunk and get some decent upper level talent
b) We pay, relatively, a smaller chunk and get some raw low A prospects.
With the Rangers financial situation, if they pursued this, I’d guess the former.

Or the more likely
the Cubs pick up part of the deal and get back nothing worth anything.

While that makes sense
It might be a bit too “egg in the face” for Hendry to go through with. Paying the Rangers $10m to take him back and get a prospect in return versus paying them $8m to take Bradley and get nothing in return might be preferable for saving some face.

OK. I'm having trouble reading headlines this morning.
When I read the header, it looked like THIS (in the sidebar):
Monday Morning
Manager…Milton Bradley
I thought to myself:
“Self: Who in their right mind would hire Milton Bradley as their manager?”

Let's all sign up for the Rangers SBN site and brainwash them.

Most people who commented on the article seemed to favor bringing him back.
Doesn’t seem like it would take a lot of washing, strangely enough…

Of course not
because the article is assuming the Cubs pick up a good portion of the deal. Texas would be willing to gamble on a cheap Milton Bradley.

Sullivan has a new twist on the Burrell rumor
adding Aki Iwamura to the mix. Well, at least that trade would make someone happy.

Forget Iwamura.
Tampabay.com baseball blog says:
The Rays were looking to do some kind of deal since they weren’t planning to pick up the $4.85-million option to bring him back. What’s interesting is that the source indicated the deal wasn’t with the Cubs or the Dodgers as has been speculated on but to an unexpected team. Hmmm.

Good to hear.
I don’t see the point in paying Iwamura when we have other options in-house that should be able to do everything he does.

Good Move for Bradley
It’s blatantly screaming out loud bloody obvious that Gameboard is not happy in Chicago. Gameboard had a good season in Texas in 2008, so I hope he goes back there.

yeah ...
this actually makes a lot of sense, assuming his Texas teammates don’t dislike him.
Any other team would have to wonder whether Milton can deal with their particular set of media/pressure/expectations. Texas knows Milton can hack it there. And I could see the Rangers using that particular reasoning in explaining trading for him. “We know he’s had problems, but he was great here.”
I’m kinda pulling this out of my ass, but what if the Cubs traded Milton and Jeff Baker (who could play third in Texas) for Michael Young?

And leave Fontenot to play second?

No, I presume Young would play second base (his least bad defensive position) and back up third base.
An interesting idea that makes some sense, though it would be an obvious gamble to give up a younger, upsidey (?!) player like Baker. Problem is, as noted above, if Texas is looking to bolster their offense, they may not want to lose Young.

Baker isn't really "younger".
He’ll be 29 next June.
