White Sox have agreed to send second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to the Royals for Mark Teahen, who is expected to replace Jermaine Dye as Chicago's right fielder.

Interesting

A swap of disappointing prospects more or less. I guess Teahen isn’t a prospect anymore, he will fit in well with the Sox. Fields probably needed to go after having some interesting things to say at the trade deadline

Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

Interesting, indeed.

I’m curious to see the reaction to this deal.

I'm curious to see where Dye ends up, too

Not that he’s going to the Cubs, but he could help someone – and it might affect the market for MB.

I can't imagine a team wanting him to actually play the field

He has been horrid out there the past few years. Still you are right because getting Dye as a FA is probably a better plan for an AL team than trading for two years of MB

Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

i prefer this for the royals

barely … what does teahen really bring to the table to justify him as a starting rf? It’s not like I’m big on Getz or Fields …

that said, getz or fields likely don’t slot as starters in kc either … so the only benefit for the royals may be to save money … if so, it’ll be curious how they reinvest it …

Do the Royals actually plan to platoon Gordon?

Inspector #23 certifies that the above post is sarcasm free, most certainly not what she said, and chock full of intangibles, although regressing to the intangible mean, as you'd expect.

Or does Fields go to 1B and compete with Jacobs?

Maybe

Jacobs can’t hit LHP and is a clod in the field.

Actually Butler played more 1st than Jacobs

Jacobs will probably be released. A .228 DH? I think they could do better.

another guy often mentioned as coming to the Cubs ...

ends up with the White Sox. Maybe Brian Roberts is next?

by elgato on Nov 5, 2009 10:05 AM CST reply actions

I do think this hints at Kenny Williams having a bigger plan at second base

Perhaps not Roberts, but I do think he has somebody in mind.

Ack - not sure who gets the better

side of that deal. If Rios keeps sucking, that’s a very Sorianoesque contract.

if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

I supported the idea of bringing Teahen here last offseason.

But he had a pretty average season with the Royals. It’s too bad he’s going to the South Side because he immediately enters my [poop] list.

by chilango2 on Nov 5, 2009 10:24 AM CST reply actions

Teahen's career OPS is .749

He’s never hit 20 HR or driven in 70 runs in a single season, and the Sox want him to play RF? I’m really glad the Cubs didn’t make this move.

Hold the presses!

This may not be a done deal just yet:

@Royals_Report: Now hearing talks between #Royals and #White Sox are stalled. Players still haven’t been told. Physicals usually needed before completion.

Smart deal for the Sox

Josh Fields has minimal value and Chris Getz is strictly serviceable. Meanwhile Mark Teahan provides a lot of versatility and hits from the left side of the plate.

Plus, it looks like the Sox want to move Gordon Beckham to 2nd base, leaving Teahan to handle 3rd base until Dayan Viciendo is ready to take over.

I thought they were going to move Beckham to shortstop.

By the way, I’m still not sure this Teahen deal has actually gone through.
