"Take this thread to Cuba!"

Greetings all!  I figure rather than hijack the latest main thread (especially since it's already at 400+ comments) for some Big Ten smackdown on this fine Saturday, might as well just do a game thread of our own.

Star-divide

Iowa vs Northwestern, Wisconsin vs Indiana, Illinois vs Minnesota, Purdue vs Michigan kicks it off at 11a (Central).  Oh, and Michigan St tries to do a little intrastate number on Western Michigan.  Then Ohio St vs Penn State caps off the day at 2:30p.

And no need to limit it to the Big Ten.  There's a big SEC showdown today (LSU vs 'Bama) plus Navy vs SCFTTSNBN (finally - it's okay to cheer for the goat!).  And hopefully Dan will check in and tell us all about the Battle for Kansas (KU vs KSU).

And if college football's not your bag, baby, that's okay.  Feel free to tell us what is.  Are you a PC or a Mac?  Is Sammy turning into Jacko?  The World's Largest Meatball weighs in at how much?

And post pictures too.  Because we can never get enough of the most awesomest pictures ever!

I've got a couple errands to run now, but I'll be back in time to track the end of the first round of games.  And I'll definitely be here for the OSU/PSU game.

Enjoy!

Sorry Al, but that meatball pales in comparison to this one

A new record was set earlier this week

Owners of Nonni’s Italian Eatery in New Hampshire created the mega-meatball, which weighed in at 222.5 pounds. Matthew Mitnitsky, owner of Nonni’s, said the giant ball of mince was authenticated as the largest on the planet after being weighed by officials from the state weights and measures department.

A Guinness Book of World Records official also confirmed it as a record breaker and presented Mr Mitnitsky with a plaque.

How old is your MacBook Pro?

and how is the battery life?

I got mine shortly after they came out so it’s going on 3.5 years and the battery has been non-existent for awhile now. Plus the case gets very hot -but I’ve got one of those bases with a fan so it’s cool.

Aside from obvious user-errors, that’s pretty much the worst that I’ve been through in 3.5 years. It’s crashed maybe 5 times total. Heck, I’d average 5 crashes every two weeks with the Toshiba/Windows machine I had previously.

It's about a year old now, bh.

Battery life is very good, but I may have a bit of an unusual circumstance.

I have a power cable at work that I plug it into every day when I get into work. I keep it plugged in when working at my desk, then I unplug when I go to meetings, etc. I get well over 2 hours on battery.

When I leave work, I have a second power cable at home. I use the laptop strictly on battery from about 5-9pm, then recharge it overnight.

It gets hot, but I have a lap pillow that diffuses the heat when working only on battery.

No, but they just got another FG. Sea. 25 - Det. 17

25 unanswered points for Seattle…

Way to go Lions. I can ALWAYS count on you for laughs on Sunday.

I actually long for the days of Wayne Fonts…

Oh, Al. Did 'ja see?

Seattle 32
Lions 20
Final.

Lions: 30 losses in their last 32 games. Really. That’s not a misprint.

As long as the Ford family owns the Lions, they will not ever, ever be relevant in the NFL.

not to worry Zeke...

I think the Lions are close to putting it all together. All they have to do is get that last missing piece… you know, a wide receiver in the draft. ;-)

The Lions made the NFC Championship game in the early 1990s

with Barry Sanders and the “Run and Shoot” offense. It was a thing of beauty to watch, but they lost to Washington (got wiped out BIG, actually) in the final, just missing out on their first Super Bowl.

And in a precursor to the very definition of (“We have to get more left-handed”) overreaction, the Lions felt their defense was on the field too much that season and they needed more “ball control”.

So Wayne Fonts tore apart the #1 offense in the NFL saying (with a straight face), “We score too quickly.”

“We. Score. Too. Quickly.” Uh, Wayne. Read those first two words closely. Then reread them again. Then think. HELLO!!!!!! Is anyone at home between your ears? Apparently “no.”

Un-freaking-believable.

I washed my hands of the franchise that day.

Well, there are a lot of differences in the Cubs favor.

The Cubs actually have made the playoffs several times in recent years. For the Lions: Matt Millen. ’Nuf said.

Even in the worst years (recently) for the Cubs, they didn’t have the absolute cluelessness that the Lions have had at ownership, GM and head coach. (I’m not going as far back as the College of Coaches) I mean, Marty Morninweg, for God’s sake. The guy most famous in Detroit for winning the coin toss in a sudden death overtime game (against the Bears if I recall correctly) and electing to give the ball to the other team and play defense. Instant loss…

Have you seen ANY Lions head coach go on to another head coaching gig in the NFL? Nope. Retire? Sure. Head coach somewhere else after Detroit? Uh-uh.

Wrigley Field vs. The Pontiac Silverdome. Are you kidding me? Pontiac want wait to implode that ugly McMuffin. They can’t find a buyer- and that was BEFORE the economy tanked. They’ll wind up bulldozing it like old Tiger Stadium, without the emotion.

(I will say this: getting out of the Silverdump was the best thing the Lions have done in the last 20 years. Ford Field and the adjacent Comerica Park for the Tigers is a GREAT sports “park” area. Both are beautiful facilities.)

Draft picks: Lions love crappy QBs and even crappier wide receivers. Paging Charles Rogers. Paging Joey Harrington.

All in all, the Lions are the worst NFL franchise over the last 35 years. It’s not even close.

The other thing I find funny here in Michigan is when a Lions fan gives me crap for being a Cubs fan.

I mean, seriously? How delusional can a person be to cast a stone in that glass house?

In fairness....

…. it’s really not Cutler’s fault. The Bears’ defense is horrendous.

Sue: what happened?

Iowa losing didn’t exactly help us land a better bowl. I don’t want to go to the Pizza-Pizza bowl!

Saturday’s IOWA-OSU game will be huge for both schools.

So do you and ballhawk have a wager yet?
