Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?

Evidently he catches the low & outside balls as well as he hits them...

Soriano was a butcher at 2B with the Yankees and Rangers.
It’s hard to believe he’d be any better, almost four years after he last played the position on a regular basis.
No to Soriano at 2B.

I'm not saying he'll be good at 2B...
But I wonder if he costs the team more runs there than in LF. 24 or so errors at 2B are generally bad throws to first or second or balls between the legs resulting in a guy on first or runners on first and second. Whereas it seemed like every other day he made a bonehead play in left where the hitter advanced all the way to second or even third. But then again, he did cut down a whopping 7 runners from left last year. So does Soriano at 2B limit the damage?
Yes'm
What I've been wondering lately
If the Cubs let Lee leave after this season, would they consider trying Soriano at first? A lot of bad second basemen have moved to first over the years. Where would it be easier to find a LH bat, at first or in LF?

Think how many batters would be safe
Because the first baseman hopped to catch every throw.

Who are you suggesting plays left then?

Yes.
There is a metric that measures runs saved – it’s called Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR). Read more here.
