The Cubs have talked with free-agent center fielder Mike Cameron's agent but aren't expected to fill that need until gaining clarity on Bradley. ... They also have been linked to former White Sox outfielder Scott Podsednik
comment: Looking at all the trade and FA rumor reports this result I find quite intriguing. Dumping Bradley for a bad another contract like Lowell offers the Cubs an opportunity to park someone on the bench whom they can trade in the midseason when Lowell is healthy...okay not great but again subtraction. Cameron is a defensive CF with occassional pop, Podsednik is a good front of the order offensive player (left handed) who is marginal in the field. Piniella could platoon in the game these two while Lowell could be a bat off the bench.

Soooo...

…Lowell would basically be Jake Fox, except he can’t play the outfield. And he’s never played first base. Or been a catcher. I guess if he got healthy, he’d be a decent 3B backup for Aramis. Last I heard, however, the Lowell thing was being deemed “unlikely.”

And I really hope this Scotty Pods thing goes nowhere. He did have a decent year at the plate this past season (.338 wOBA in 587 PAs), but he’s never really been a good CF (at least per UZR) – even when he was younger.

So Fox > Lowell

WHY DID YOU TRADE HIM JIM YOU JERK!

I know you're being sarcastic...

…but, just to clarify, I wasn’t implying Fox was necessarily better than Lowell. I was just trying to figure out what Lowell’s role would be on the Cubs assuming he was traded here, which he won’t be.

X1000

Pods wants too much money and even if he didn’t, he is not a useful player.

It won't happen

Podsednik is a terrible centerfielder and there is no possible way on this earth that the Cubs can go with Soriano and Podsednik side by side in that outfield.

If Pods is a Cub next year...

…I’m officially on the fire JH bandwagon.

He’s my favorite player to heckle.

So true.

I’m sure the reaction would be something like “Another bloated contract from doughnuts Hendry. This guy should have been fired a long time ago. Ricketts made a huge mistake retaining him and Crane.”

Do I have that done or what?!

Brewers got a Ted Lilly clone for a song of a deal

You can piss on the signing all you want. I won’t. Brewers need starting pitching, and in Wolf they got somebody who can competently serve in that rotation behind ace Jovani Gallardo. Brewers are a better ballclub for this move.

Agreed.

Hawkins may help their bullpen, too. He was pretty good with the Astros.
