Serious consideration for rick ankiel?
I was just wondering if anyone thinks our most serious push for a centerfielder should be in the form of signing Rick Ankiel, now that Cameron is off the table. I think Ankiel had a down year offensively, and that he can rake around a .260-.270 clip when a) healthy, and b) being able to work with rudy. This hitting coach apparently can help decent hitters become better, kind of like the "Dave Duncan", of hitting coaches. I know Ankiel has an absolute cannon for an arm, and I defineitely remember him crashing into some outfield walls, a la Reed Johnson style. Does anyone have his defensive/ offensive stats/ splits? I just don't know about Marlon Byrd, and if I remember correct, the last time we picked up an ex-Cardinal centerfielder, that worked out pretty well.

"We’re going to come back here next year healthy and do what we’re supposed to do, and we’re going to be all right. That’s not Hendry’s fault. He thought it was the right move. It didn’t work out. But at the same time, he’s the same guy that put back-to-back championship teams together." - Aramis Ramirez
Between Byrd and Ankiel
Neither one has the pedigree of a great offensive player, and if anything, Byrd has slightly better numbers over the past 3 years.
Also, Byrd is a definitively better defensive player than Ankiel
Again, I would ask...
… people not to start a dozen different posts on the subject of who plays CF. This post would have been better as a comment under one of the other CF posts. Thanks.

Of course, hope means being cut down on some street corner, as you run like mad, by a random bullet.

FWIW ...
I want the Cubs to really look into Ankiel. If the cost is right, if he’s healthy, I think he might be the best choice out there.
His defense isn’t great, and he’s a Boras client. But I want the Cubs to see if they could get him on a cheap deal, for his youth and his lefty bat.
Ankiel had a really bad year in 2009.
I know he was injured. If I thought there was any way he could replicate his 2008 season, sure.
But it would HAVE to be on a one-year deal. No more multiyear deals with NTC’s for guys like this.
And he’s not young. He will be 31 in July.

why? Has HGH been declared legal?
