My Christmas present from the Cubs
Alas it is not a shiny new CF, Maddux returning as manager or an personally autographed photo of Sam Fuld. It is a Cubs hat that says " Season Ticket Holder 20+ Years". Kasey did you get one ? Do they have one for you 10 plus year folks ? I am sure BLou thinks it is the booby prize but I plan to wear at the Convention ( double booby prize re BLou) preferably when I am grilling Lou about playing Scales in Sept.

I've been a season ticket holder since 1992...
… so that’s 18 seasons. Guess I don’t get one.

I didn't get one yet...
But I saw Wally over the weekend and he told me he got one. He said it is a real nice quality hat. I personally can’t wait until mine shows up.

Yours come in the mail?
Being that I’m in NY as well I seem to recall both years having to pick mine up there.
Only if you stay at the hotel do you pick up.
The ones bought on line are mailed. FYI congrats to Musicdude who gets my two extras. He just has to be careful not to post anything critical of Maddux or Fuld till he gets them.

Have fun at the Cubs Convention
Maybe Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and Geovany Soto will show up this year (unlike last year). I cancelled going because I don’t want to spend $1000 to stand in line for an hour (watching numerous EBay dealers cut in line in front of small kids unchecked) to get Marlon Byrd or Andres Blanco’s autographs.
If I were you, I’d send it back and ask them for better Christmas presents: Ryne Sandberg as the Cubs manager, a new general manager, quality bench players, a bullpen outside of Marmol and Guzman, and some players who can hit outside of Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and Ryan Theriot.
Glad you all got hats!!!

How do you spend $1000
Do you fly in from Hawaii ? I will be spending $200 . Got a airfare from NYC for $115 and ticket is $65. I make it a point never to eat at the hotel and I commute from Mom’s in Lincoln Park. I actually have a room reserved at the Blackstone which is a block away $100 a night but only using it if my friend decides to share it. Hilton is way overpiced but there are plenty of other places to say for half the price.

You have an alternate place to stay...
The money comes from staying at the Hilton for two nights, plus all of the food you eat, plus some souvenirs. You also have to pay for each photo if you want it taken “professionally”. Last year’s was actually pretty cool outside of the line cutters. Reed Johnson, Mike Fontenot, Jeff Samardzija, and Ryan Dempster were class acts and were obviously all about the fans.
I was just hoping that there’d be some new people to meet and see this year, but that appears to be unlikely. I just see the unveiling of someone like Marlon Byrd as our “major offseason”, after last year’s debacle, is something I can do without.
Stay at the Blackstone or the other one across the street.
Nicer Hotels and half the price even if you pay an extra $45 for the pass. Suprising number of good restaurants within walking distance and autographs are not my thing unless the line is short or Maddux comes ( which he won’t , hates cold weather and will be getting ready for Bob Hope Classic which starts a few days later, not like I keep tabs on him or anything). Seriously you can spend a LOT less and still have a good time.

Guessing you mean the Essex.
Have stayed there several times during the convention, and it’s a deal at $80/night. I’d greatly appreciate your restaurant recommendations. Getting tired of my kid dragging me to Bennigans every year.
Try this link
http://chicago.menupages.com/restaurants/all-areas/south-loop-near-south/all-cuisines/
For a list of places in the area. Last year I went to the 11 City Diner which was really, really good. A terrific REAL deli , good corned beef etc , plenty on the menu. I also tried Epic Burger which was very good. Less than Bennigan’s I am sure. No atmospere but great burger. Definately avoid buying coffee/breakfast in the hotel. If you sneak out the South side there is Caribou Coffee on South West corner across from the back of the hotel and a Panera Bakery on the 500 block of State ( love that chain) and for Al there is a Jimmy John’s in the 700 block of State. Do try to avoid the other priced crap in the hotel.

why does everyone complain about the line cutters here?
wouldn’t it be more effective to complain about the line cutters AT the convention?
I mean, seriously, if you’ve been waiting in line with your kids, and I’m guessing there’s a real good chance you’ll be standing next to some other family with kids, and you all have been there for awhile, waiting patiently but that’s cool because you’re enjoying talking to people around you about the Cubs chances in 2010 and how bad Silva’s going to be.
So everyone’s having a good time but then right as the session’s about to start, some sleaze of an autograph hound cuts in near the front of the line. Don’t just stand there and shake your head. Call the sleazeball out! Point him out to whatever passes for security there. And if there’s no security there, take matters into your own hands!
Enlist your new-found friends in line and make an example of the dirtbag. Point him out – literally! Call him every PG-13 name in the book. Tell him exactly what you think of him and what he represents in an outraged yet civilized tone. Shame him! Ridicule him! Expose him for the lousy POS he is. And if he’s still there in line, dug in like a Missouri tick in September, get out of line and make sure you explain to the Cubs player/personality in the room exactly what happened.
Power to the people! Taking it to the streets! Right on, brother!

Not sure bout the $ you spent, but
if that’s the caliber of players that are going to be there it does seem llke a waste. My impression (without having been to one in the last four years) is that it gotten too big for its own good. However, I do like the thought of Hendry getting peppered by fans with questions about his moves over the last year.

You are easier to please than me, Doggie Stalker
I got my hat last week and actually laughed about it. On one hand, the Cubs are so piss poor at showing appreciation for season ticket holders, that it was nice to get something. On the other hand, it’s a !@#$ hat. I’m not sure about the Bears, but I know for a fact the White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks are substantially ahead of the Cubs in terms of treatment of season ticket holders. That’s true both in the form of giveaways and in the quality of service when calling the respective teams’ offices.
Cubs are not too good on the extras
but general service is pretty good. Let’s face it when you have a waiting list of 100,000 not a big incentive to offer freebies.

Not that I'm excusing that, but...
… when you have 100,000+ people on the waiting list, I suppose you can say, “There’s plenty more where that came from.” That’s the wrong attitude to have. The Cubs do need to improve relations with season ticket holders, and as one of them, I’m right at the front of the line.
Other teams in town, as you note, treat their STH better. The Cubs need to learn from that.

Chicago Wolves did nice things as well
like jerseys, plaques, etc
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
that typically helps.
the Wolves IMHO are the best with their interaction with fans of all teams in Chicago (from 94-00 I am basing this on). They always did a good job communicating with fans, involving fans and booster clubs, and making them feel a part of the family. Sure they are a minor league team and typically minor league teams need to do more of this to survive, but why must it stop too often once you hit the major leagues?
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
The Cubs are indeed behind..............
……….the other major franchises in Chicago. Frankly, they are light years behind, but as mentioned elsewhere, a waiting list of +100K does little to motivate hand outs.
I got my chotsky yesterday. No complaints. Free is free, but we had better get the annual calendar too!!!!

25 years of Bears season tickets...
and I’ve gotten nothing much from them over the years but an invoice. Maybe a window sticker every couple of years. They do give us a media guide every year, though now it’s a CD-ROM.
Not complaining though, the stories I’ve heard from true long-time STH about the shaft they got relocating seats in the move from Wrigley to SF or old SF to new SF (or both) makes my 25 years seem insignificant.
As for MLB, we split Giants tix out here for a couple of years; the way we were treated in terms of perks, freebies and communication blew away anything the Cubs do for STH.
OT, but since we are talking about tickets
is the spring training schedule out yet? Need to make reservations for a weekend in Phoenix. I apologize if this was covered earlier and I missed it.

the 60’s history that I wrote about the White Sox. At the time, the writing seemed to be well received. So, you will have to take my word for it, the gentleman poster here won’t go back and grab the essay I wrote. That’s fine.
I was thumbed out at the Angels site for defending Sox fans and Chicagoans during the 2005 World Series. The profanity directed toward Sox fans and Chicagoans was out of line, I said so, and was banned. That individual who runs that blog is one sore loser.
And not very professional, either, since he unleashed a string of profanities as he E-mailed back to me. Pretty classless.
The Good Dr. is very selective about what he wants to post here, regarding me. That’s fine, for I really don’t care. I don’t have access to the other material I wrote.

Dodge, deflect, change subject
You’ve repeatedly claimed to have run afoul at South Side Sox for merely posting about history. When confronted by evidence that directly proves your assertion to be BS, you claim that it’s selective. Well it was your first post there and you see how your post was received, “Are you a self loathing douche. Nothing better to do than post anti-Sox rhetoric…”
In 2005, you were not merely writing about Sox history, and you know it. You were there to agitate Sox fans. You were there mocking and taunting the Sox fans. Don’t be coy.
Even this later supposedly (selectively picked?) “well-reasoned and written post” contained more of the usual “anti-Sox rhetoric.”
Funny too that you posted the usual dribble about Sox fans being obsessed about the Cubbies whilst you, a Cubbie fan, were on posting on a Sox discussion group.
