Chip Caray stays with Braves
While he's been fired by TBS, he has been hired by Fox Sports South and Sports South and will call about 105 games for the Braves.

Good for Chip

Agreed.
I never understood the vitriol that some here had for Chip. To me, Little Thommy Brennaman was much worse. At least Chip had some PBP experience when the Cubs hired him. Little Thommy was a weekend TV sportscaster in Cincinnati with a famous father.

Vitriol
I guess some people made it more personal than it needed to be with Chip. I’ve often said that Chip, from all reports, was a great guy. My issues with him were that I just really didn’t like him as an announcer… his need to make a routine fly ball seem like the final out in the world series, his blathering about cotton candy, his need to call the foul pole the “fair pole”. I just didn’t enjoy him as a broadcaster. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Thom Brennaman as an announcer. He may have been smug, I don’t really know, but when he was with the Cubs, I felt that he called a tremendous game. Of late, he’s gotten much more verbose, but during his Cubs tenure, I really thought he did a great job.
I saw it exactly the opposite way that you did.
I found Chip to be corny, occasionally made mistakes, but otherwise decent. He and Stone made a good team.
Brennaman, OTOH, I found to be pompous, and HE was the one who made every routine play seem unbelievable. Further, his sense of baseball history went back no further than the 1980’s.
I also met Brennaman in person a couple times. I found him to be just as pompous in real life as he seemed to me on TV.

I'm with dml on this one
Sosa pops out to McGwire to end a game and “HOW APPROPRIATE IS THIS!!!”
Honestly, I see Chip as Judd Sirott without the volume regulator.

That's really an insult to Chip.
Sirott is the worst Cub announcer ever.

Worse than Joe Carter?

Carter - Worst on TV
Excluding the guest announcers back in 1987 while Harry Caray was recovering from his stroke, Joe Carter was the worst Cubs TV announcer ever. Some of the ones back in 1987 were better than Carter. Ernie Harwell for a game in Philadelphia comes to mind. Bill Murray was pretty entertaining announcing a game between the Cubs and Expos. Deadly dull Bob Dernier in 2000 was not as bad in Steve Stone’s absence as Carter was.

In the Cubs-Reds game where Sammy hit no. 512
it was a 2-2 count on Sosa. Danny Graves delivers the pitch, which has a little sink on it, and for a split-second, it appears as though Sammy might swing. He holds up, and Chip Caray says “Whoo, that just missed, and I mean JUST missed!” Seconds pass, and they show the replay.
The pitch looks to be at least six inches below the zone when it crosses the plate. Chip looks like a fool and Stoney says something like “CB Bucknor says no, and that pitch appeared to be well below the knees of Sammy.” He did stuff like that a lot. From what I hear, his skills as a basketball announcer make his baseball calls seem like Vin Scully.

"And the Cubs continue to pound the ball in the ground against Hershiser"
It was at most the second ground out in the first four innings.

A Chip anecdote
And I do think he’s a decent guy – just not a very good announcer . . .
During Todd Hundley’s time as a Cub, he went on and on for the first two or three of Hundley’s at-bats about how fans were dumping on Hundley and things were rough. I sent an e-mail to the booth essentially saying that I felt sorry for Todd as a human being, but he brought a lot of the garbage on himself with his attitude. The next time Hundley came up, Chip’s attitude changed and he essentially quoted me – except he made it sound like A) it was all his thoughts and B) he never acknowledged the shift in his own opinion.

(Sarcasm) Baseball Existed Before 1980?
(Sarcasm) What is this stuff about baseball existing before 1980? I thought the first ever game was played when I got WGN on my cable system.
"The big possums walk late." - Harry Caray
Baseball did exist before 1980, but the games were in black and white before 1964 - even if you went to the field to see them.
But no one noticed. We were all in black and white before “Flipper.”
"Louisiana Lumberjack"
That still brings a smile to my face. I liked Chip and good for him that he’s got a job in Atl. I thought as an announcer he was OK, not great. I really do like Len and Bob, but Chip’s alright.

Chip is nowhere as good as his father or grandfather.
However, I suppose it’s good to have the blood of Harry and Skip Caray still in the game. I think we can all agree that Chip is a charter member of the “Lucky Sperm Club”, but he always seemed like a good guy to me, and hey, I guess if any of us were third- generation baseball broadcasters would take advantage of it, regardless of our level of talent. I’m content to live and let live as far as Chip goes.

This is exactly what I said would happen in the fan post
upon his termination from WTBS.

Is there even a WTBS broadcast channel any more?

I hate listening to Joe Buck...
but Chip brings it to a whole new level. Buck has managed to find himself a home in the NFL, but Chip should be relegated to table tennis.
It's Peachtree TV, per Wikip
In late June 2007, Turner Broadcasting announced that WTBS would change call letters and become WPCH-TV, and would be branded as Peachtree TV. According to Turner, The new channel 17 would offer sitcoms and movies geared specifically toward an Atlanta audience. The new station would also broadcast 45 Atlanta Braves baseball games next season. The change occurred on October 1. In addition, the channel 17 change allowed Atlanta cable and satellite television viewers, for the first time since the early 1980s, to receive the national TBS signal as of that date. Most cable and satellite companies previously carried WTBS’s local Atlanta signal instead of the national TBS channel. Following the change, cable systems in Canada were legally required to continue carrying the local Peachtree TV signal, instead of switching to the national TBS feed.
