The Yankees lurk...
Until the Yankees address their open slot in left field (Damon? DeRosa?) Holliday is going to be tied to New York no matter how much Brian Cashman denies interest.

Who would you rather have?
Damon, who wants $13m a year on a multi-year deal, or Matt Holliday for a few more million. I’d take the much younger and better Holliday, myself.

Yeah but it's not that simple.
Holliday costs more than just a few million more. If the Yahoo report was correct, his deal would be Sori-like reaching 8 years for a total of $128M.
I almost hope they do sign him, because they will seriously regret that contract when it’s all said and done.

It might also make it less possible for them to afford Pujols

That will be interesting.
Pujols says he wants to play for a winner, but will he still think that when he’s not getting the max market value? I honestly think he’ll walk bc TLR will decide to retire and he could get $200 M 10 years from someone else.

which is the lone reason I am hoping that St Louis
spends out the ass for Holliday.
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Well...
It was doubtful that Troy Glaus would be willing to play an acceptable 3rd base, especially coming off shoulder surgery. The Braves can put Glaus at 1st base, which makes him a good addition.
St. Louis can still get in the Adrian Beltre bidding if they so choose.

he can also back up Chipper
which the BRaves need for 40 games or so every year

or the Cardinals could go after Miquel Tejada to play 3rd ?!?!
Mark McGwire could teach Tejada all his masking tricks or how to get somebody else to pee in a cup on testing day.

So many options
I think it was Buster Olney that said after the non-tender deadline that there were nearly 300 players on the market. That’s crazy. Makes you wonder why some teams are being so aggressive for guys like Pudge Rodriguez, when you can have your pick of the has-beens in January and February.

I also wonder if Johnny Damon might wind up in St. Louis
If the Cardinals nabbed a Damon on a fair contract to go along with Tejada or Beltre at 3rd base, they would have done well for themselves. Better than spending nearly $100 million on Matt Holliday.
We’ll see.
