Two more potential free agents for the Cubs
I've been bringing up names here and there for the Cubs, and these are my next two...
What does everyone think of Coco Crisp or Endy Chavez? Both are CF's and play phenomenal defense. Neither is that great a hitter, but they're no Aaron Miles, either. Chavez bats lefty and Crisp is a switch hitter. They also are both speedy baserunners. Personally, I prefer Chavez, but what does BCB think? Are they worthwhile? Out of our price range? Perfect???

No
Coco Crisp is an average at best center fielder who is best suited for left field. And there are holes to his offensive game. If he came cheap on a one year deal I wouldn’t object, but otherwise no.
Endy Chavez is a 5th outfielder type. Whoopie.

We agree, for once.
We already have this type of player in Sam Fuld. No need to go to free agency and bottom feed.

The only good thing about crisp is his name
This Chicago Cubs team is currently Aaron free. Keep it that way, please.
Remember in 2008 when he charged the mound?
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
That too..

Plus, going from "Milton Bradley" to "Coco Crisp"...?
C’mon, let us not tempt fate.

Chavez is coming off of a serious knee injury.
IIRC, he tore his ACL early last season. While repairing torn ACLs has become fairly routine for orthopedic surgeons, Chavez will be entering his age 32 season and speed is his main asset.
While I think he is a better player than Sam Fuld, neither are everyday CFs and there is no sense paying more than the ML minimum for Chavez rather than just keeping Fuld.
Crisp is a good defensive CF, though his throwing arm is good only in comparison with Juan Pierre’s. (And that was before shoulder surgery.) His OBP skills leave a lot to be desired and he has no power. We might as well trade Gameboard for Pierre.

Crisp is not a good defensive center fielder
He is average at best out there. Don’t believe me then go ask Terry Francona and the Boston Red Sox who got to the point where they could no longer take Crisp playing center, even before the arrival of Jacob Ellsbury happened.
Crisp needs to play left field. And for the reasons you stated he has shortcomings to his offensive game that make wanting him a dubious proposition.
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Crisp's defensive statistics have really been all over the board.
He was extremely good in 2007, then really bad in 2008. Last year in limited time, he looked like he was back to ’07 form. Injuries may be a factor here.
Is he traded yet?
I wouldn't want either
I think the Cubs should seriously look at Ben Sheets and Brett Myers. Both guys are bull dogs. I know I hated seeing Sheets face the Cubs because I knew it would be 7 shutout innings. Both would come relatively cheap and could have a large upside
I would love for the cubs to get sheets on a one-year incentive type deal....
He has take over a year to heal up and get healthy…and when healthy he is a dominate pitcher. I think its a gamble well worth taking
Heavens to mergatroid
So the Cubs should get rid of the toxic Milton Bradley and then turn around and add wife-beater Bret Myers?!?!

Figgins to the M's??
4yrs/35 Million??? Terrible deal!!!

The Mariners have lots of money.
Let them waste $9m a year on Figgins. He ain’t that good.

I don't get it
They have absolutely no power!

4 yrs/36 Million
With a vesting option that could make the deal worth 45 million is what I just read! WOW WOW WOW!

That's ridiculous!
He’s a nice player, but wow, indeed.

Also linked to Harden...

Terrible deal
Chone Figgins has seen his best years. Seattle will regret that deal as much as they ended up regretting the Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson deals.

Surprisingly enough....
… I agree with you 100%. I’m glad Figgins wound up far from the North Side.
