DeRosa and Latroy Hawkins being pursued by Rockies
Former Cubs DeRosa and Latroy Hawkins are being pursued by the Rockies.
I don't really care about Hawkins, but any DeRo news is important.

DeRosa
I can’t find the article right now, but rumors are that DeRosa is seeking a 3 year deal worth $9M… per season. Much as I like De Rosa, that not only way out of the Cubs price range, its out of any reasonable price range for him.
I agree.
As much as I love DeRo, he isn’t worth $9M if Figgins is only worth $9M. My guess is that his agent set that mark back when Figgins was talking 5/$50M. He’ll probably end up with 3/$20.
MLBTR is citing Buster Olney, though it is an Insider link:
Free agent infielders Adrian Beltre and Mark DeRosa had off-years offensively, but according to ESPN’s Buster Olney, both have steep asking prices. Said Olney:
As teams have been checking in on the availability of infielders, they have found that the asking price for Beltre is no less than $10 million a year, and for DeRosa, it’s a three-year deal for something in the range of $9 million a year.

Looks like Figgins will end up at 4/36
I would be stunned if Beltre or DeRosa could match that.
I just don’t know what the market for Beltre will be… IMO DeRo ends up around 2/11 or 2/12.
Troy Renck is a very underrated reporter for the Post
(his info is usually more accurate than Rosenthal’s), but it doesn’t make any sense at all, unless:
1. They intend to trade Hawpe, which they basically have said they won’t do unless someone (the Cards?) drastically overpays;
2. They intend to trade Spillborghs (same conditions as Hawpe), though it wouldn’t make sense to pay DeRo $$$ to be a 5th OF;
3. They intend to trade/non-tender Barmes, which contradicts their stated desire to sign him long-term;
4. They intend to trade/non-tender both Stewart and Atkins. Atkins is gone, but Stewart has a good 3B glove and light-tower power — albeit in a low BA package. They would have to be wowed to trade him;
5. They think DeRo won’t mind catching.
Since I don’t think any of the above will happen (unless Dan O-Dowd is lying about Hawpe or something), DeRo won’t be playing at Coors Field next season.

LaTroy Hawkins at Coors Field
That makes me very happy.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
Been there, done that.
Hawkins pitched a full year for the Rockies in 2007. Had a pretty good year for them that season, too.

Hawk is fine
as a set-up guy in a small market. Not a world-beater by any stretch, but he could be useful for the Rox.
I thought Marquis would get pasted there last year and it didn't happen.
I would like to see Latroy pitch in New York, I hear he is real good with the media…..
Jim Tracy does a great job of handling a pitching staff.
Also, having Tulowitzki and Barmes up the middle is bound to help any ground-ball pitcher.
